Good day tacomaworld family. Now i may be being lazy since there is just so much on here.

Does anyone know if you can take a 3rd gen 2.7l eng and put it into a 2nd gen? I would imagine that they are the exact same and same mounting.

I havent had a chance to compare the 2 side by side. Come to think could someone here post a pic of the 2nd anf 3rd gen mounting area from under neath in here?

I ask cause im thinking of trying to swap mine to either a new 2.7l or a same gen with less miles.

    Thanks for any info.

The only difference that I can think of is if you go from a third Gen that will all have vvt on both intake and exhaust sides vs some.of the earlier second gens that only had variable valve timing on the exhaust side (I think). Of course they may bolt right up with no issues and all you might need is an exam flash but I'm not certain.

You'd need to use a 3rd Gen ECM, and you'd need the wiring harness.
Even then, it won't work. Because the 2nd truck wont have the "other" stuff the ECM is looking for.

    In short, it won't work.
Well, anything is possible. But within normal reason, it won't work.

Well it can work just fine depending on the year he is trying to swap to...a later 2nd Gen 4 banger has vvt on both intake and exhaust....so if he is in the right year range it might work out pretty good

The 2nd gen (05-15) 2TR were all single VVT only, 3rd gen (16+) were dual VVT.
