    Hey Tacomaworld,

Hoping some folks here can help point me in the right direction making sure I have all the right stuff to get my truck set back up with a proper OEM hitch and bumper. I got a factory towbar from a member on this forum, IMG_1863.jpg but as I’m removing stuff, I’m realizing I probably need everything new OEM bumper wise as well, including hardware, as I’ve already snapped a couple of bolts.

    IMG_1947.jpg

my truck has the factory tow package, I’m just looking for a handy resource to purchase/cross check part numbers and make sure I get exactly what I need, I can reuse all plastics, etc. but all the metal is pretty roached, so I need a new bumper shell and all associated mounting brackets and hardware.

    IMG_1946.jpg

Biggest question from me is how do I know what exactly is compatible with factory tow package versus not in so far as bumper mounting brackets, etc.

    Thanks! Any help much appreciated

I'd be closely inspecting the rest of the frame for rust. The back could look like that from towing a boat (salt water).

Thanks, for sure! I think it’s just New England saltwater from what they put on the roads around here. Lol, the frame was replaced in 2021 just not the hitch bar.

I got a painted to match rear bumper off of eBay that came with everything except for the bolts. I believe it was like $350 shipped. Paint match was spot on.

Here's a good breakdown of the bumper to help you out.

Looking at extremeterrain.com myself for just the shell, Amazon has them for $180 with seemingly all brackets/plastics, reviews said it’s a little janky but I might go that route for now anyway.

I believe the bumpers are the same on tow pkg/non-tow package Tacomas, but the interface/mounting scheme between the bumper, hitch and frame is a complex marriage of bolts, brackets and mounting plates to say the least. (See previous post #5) More complex than any Class IV hitch I have ever had on a vehicle in the past. I'd also add that I have to scrape, prime and re-paint the hitch and mounting hardware every year to keep the rust at bay and put a heavy coat of paint and Fluid-Film on the inside of the bumper before you re-install it. It will still rust but will take longer before it rots through the chrome or paint.
