I think so. I just hate seeing things not being used. I may or may not have been looking for bare frames on marketplace today. I think it'd be cool to have a completely different setup to swap the motor into

I can appreciate both sides haha. There's definitely some bikes I could see as being art pieces, but at the same time I'm all about practicality and IDK if I could do that with any of my own bikes. Yours first the bill for either so the choice is yours! lol

I met a guy to sell some Jeep parts this weekend at the local motorcycle store. So I had to go in an walk around and picked up this Arai Signet-X for $320.00 marked down from $720.00. Been a long while since I have had an Arai, man they just fit so well. I couldn't pass it up.

All I expect is a basic response to inquiries. "I don't know" is a better answer than just ignoring a question. As for quality and such, I expect shit. I don't trust people.

With a dealer all interactions are through email so it's in writing. I'm not going to deal with bait and switch stuff.

As for a private seller, trying to coordinate schedules is rough. I'm on a 6AM-6PM shift at the moment and sometimes work a bit later. The sell is an hour behind me due to time zone differences, so absolute best case scenario I'd be available to talk to them at 5:30 or 6 PM their time. Not sure of their schedule. Now, if I could email them directly, that'd be great, but cycletrader is the middleman about delivering emails. PITA so far.

As much as it sucks even that is too much to expect these days lol.

I've had sales set up in advance, confirmed 1-3 days prior, and even the morning of only to get flaked on or ghosted. For things cheap AND expensive. I've had plenty of people express interest and then never follow up after a response. Can't tell you how many listings i've inquired about and never heard back on despite however many number of follow ups. Some of them are still listed/getting updated to this day lol.

I guess when I say "manage your expectations" I more so mean "Don't go into it with any" lol.

I feel like "parked in the man cave" makes it sound cooler than it is. My modest shop is barely big enough for two bikes, so it's either put it in the house or send it out to the barn. This way at least I get to look at it lol

    Fair.

I'll likely send another email toward the end of the day. Unless there is something catastrophically wrong or the mileage is falsified, I want the bike.

Haha it definitely has a different vibe to it than "running out of room so I shoved it in the corner of the spare room". Definitely a solid option to get stuck staring at though

Hopefully he gets back to you. if you know the city/area/zip code, it might be worth searching other avenues like Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp to see if he's listed it there so you might have a more direct line of communication.

I don't have any kind of social media stuff, so it's hard to check the other stuff. That is a good idea, and I may reach out to my younger brother to see if he'll use his bookface to check for me.

I knew a guy, was an eccentric exotic cat and motorcycle dealer. Had a 0 mile, never even had fluids, 996R Ducati that he kept as decoration. Probably worth $60-70k as it sat. Sure was pretty though

Just got back from a 1hr 45 min in the saddle ride. Did 73 miles of back roads just cruising getting more familiar with the bike again. This bike pulls like a freight train even though I have a 2 tooth down rear sprocket and stock front on there. Butt got a little sore with the hard Corbin seat. I may take it apart and install a gel pad and a layer of foam.
I know I said it needs nothing BUUUT I never did anything to the suspension. It’s all stock and the rear shock is just way too harsh. I have the pre load set but I hit a bump and it’s not good. So I will be getting a rear shock and if I do that I might as well respiring the front to my weight. THEN it will be perfect.
Also with my weight down a bit my leathers fit better. I did get a bit sore in the back but as I get stronger it won’t be a problem.
So far I have put 98 miles in two days. I am going on a long ride again tomorrow so I should have more miles in three days than Alan put on in a 1yr and 8 months. ‍

That's awesome! Makes me want to get out and ride. Weather permitting I need to change the oil and go renew my plate.

That's a fair point, good to have things documented. I remember Cycle trader being hit or miss with responses from private sellers. Maybe their email system sucks. I found my Super duke listed there, but it was at a dealer so I just called them directly.

I miss basic old Craigslist, had some good luck there finding bikes/vehicles over the years. Sounds like Facebook marketplace has replaced that in popularity but I refuse to make an account ha

Yeah, I won't have a bookface account either. Cycletrader seems to be a mediocre email middleman. Either they only deliver some of the requests, or they only tell you about some of them. Either way it's dumb.

Keep an eye on eBay for a used Penske or Ohlins or other brand name shock. I snagged a used Penske for my FJR for only $250 then sent it directly to Penske and had them rebuild and respring it for my weight with passenger. Total investment this route was a shade over $525 for a shock that sells for about $1100 new. Another option is Hyperpro and their "Streetbox" which gives you an emulsion shock and matched fork springs for roughly $700. Friend of mine did that on his FJR and is very happy with the results.

I order a new rear shock. Going to leave the front alone as it’s sprung for my goal weight so that will be happening soon. I did an eBay search and 0 used ohlins and Penske

    Ohlins STX46 Street Rear Shock Yamaha FZ8 / FZ1

has rebound and compression and I think hydraulic preload.
