olivia the minature horse

so im just starting this thread. i bought a minature horse for a pet for my birthday/ anniversary. ill post a couple pics and fill in details of the process as time allows. thank you for the support!

 

They are funny little creatures.

 

story goes my gf is disabled from a horse accident. she has plates in her hip that are now causing nerve damage called femeral neropathy. shes losing the ability to feel her leg and walk. its very tough on mainly me. shes a champ. so, if she can never ride, why not have one as a pet?? i got pretty drunk and stoned watching utube and convinced myself i gotta do this! combined we lost 4 family members in december. ive a new outlook on how short life is so im all in. started with an 8x12 home depot shed ( i bought half price and moved home) then completing an extension another 24'. all roofed in steel. windows, sliding door, and a fully washable interior basin. 4-21 was my birthday and we picked up our little one. she turns 1 in june. super healthy buckskin female. shes getting used to her new luxury home now. ill post again soon. @50Buck deserves a nod for being the 1st to encourage this thread.

 

this was the start of her place. now almost ready for steel roofing.

 

Cool hopefully this makes gf happy. Sounds like it's been a tough few months, keep your heads up and stay positive.

Too cool. Never wanted to hang with a mini horse before, but I do now.

 

ive never liked anything that didnt have premium fuel and forced injection with a loud exhaust. but i thought this was something worth doing. shes incredibly affectionate and is so fun to interact with. nicer and quieter than any dog ive known. im using an impact drill putting on her barn roof and she doesnt mind the noise one bit.

 

mostly shaved and bathed today. looking better all the time.

thank you. we just got stage 2 of shaving done and shampoo. she didnt know wtf was happening but is better now. shes never had a bath and dosent know much. shes a baby that is learning a lot of new things.

 

olivia doesnt like soap. or cool water on freshly shaved body. was almost 70* here but thats her call.

 

While she is young I'd see if you can find a farrier to introduce her to. Start getting her used to it while she's young so she is good with her feet.

 

thank you for joining and ask questions anytime. i just politely ask any negative comments to be limited. side note- im moving my MIL in soon (yay) and want to register oliva as a thearapy animal. any suggestions or guidance that way would be greatly appreciated!

 

To have an animal licensed as a therapy animal they have to be properly trained and vetted. I'm not sure of the process, but it's not as simple as just paying a fee or anything.

 

our ferrier will be here tmrw i think. gf already found that. she ran the agricutultural fair dept. in kennewick wa for many years. got one girl of mine caring for the other!

yes. they need bathroom training at the least. the rest i dont know. i have seen them on planes though!
