I have a family member who had a relative pass. He was an old time partner in a now-well-known company. He retired long-ago.

These stock certificates form the 1980's were found folders among other important documents.

I'd like to help, but I have no idea where to start... - Does anyone know how to best go about determining how to establish what these certificates are, and whether there is any value there?

    - Investor relations folks from the company?
    - An investment firm?

My experience dates from post on-line accounts. I don't think I've ever seen a real stock certificate... wouldn't know
    what to do with these.

Obviously this is not something that happens very often so of course, I am starting at square 1 - TW folks who may have some insight into this! :D

Just looking for insight on where to start...

    Thanks in advance!

I'll report back wherever this leads...

    What company?

You will need evidence of ownership.

Kaiser - the medical group, I believe. (I do not have them in my hands yet; I am getting some pictures sent to start my search.)

Proof of ownership? What would that be?

Weren't the certificates themselves proof of ownership? (Only guessing...)

KGHI? Kaiser Group Holdings Inc - belly up. Plenty of old companies from Kaiser steel and ship building. Kaiser Aluminum worth something. KALU

    A picture would be great.

Proof of how they came to him and how you are the legal owner will help the trail of authenticity when you hand them to broker to sell.
