So I did another Saturday night comparison.
    1. Colorado 291 Rye with Aspen staves. About a year back I bought this, tried it, hated it. Revisited it last night. Ughhh, worse than I remembered. Something wrong with this bottle, it’s TERRIBLE!
    2. McKenna 10. Man is this good! From what I’m told, this used to be $35, now it’s $74. It’s sweeter than expected, mid palate it’s somewhat like Eagle Rare, fruit forward.
    3. Frey Ranch bourbon. This is by far one of the best pours of the year, I haven’t even cracked the Farm Cut yet. Super clean up front, mid palate, I swear you can taste each type of grain. Super clean finish. Sorry, it beats EHT, but only because it’s so unique. I will buy several more bottles, so damned good!

Reminiscent of a vanilla cupcake. Absolutely delicious.

After another pour…little peach cobbler sneaking in. This is an amazing, amazing bottle. Dessert whiskey.

Last year I was in New Orleans and was offered the Batch 3 Louisiana release at 150 in a completely unremarkable store. I knew nothing about the label and passed. After learning about OC I vowed never to pass it up again at a reasonable price, and recently found a Craigslist seller in Louisville willing to part with four bottles at under 200 apiece, all American Whiskey batches. I sold 2 at full secondary so my out of pocket for the 2 I kept was less than 100 apiece, so I got an amazing deal.

So it's straight American whiskey - so they're blending it up. What's in the mix?

But I’ve also read that they’re double barreled.

Interesting...so all MGP but bourbon+...well who knows then. The Indiana boys are big enough to distill whatever.

Glad to hear it's a banger!

It may not have any bourbon at all. MGP distills plenty of straight whiskey. Or it could be whiskey for the same reason Michter’s Whiskey is, because the second barreling is in used cooperage. Some of the AW batches reportedly were that way.

Very interesting! Rare that many opaque whiskies are well regarded.

Can confirm it's a good bottle. Sampled the Colorado one and enjoyed it.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Just gotta throw a word of support out for this George Dickel I grabbed last night. I was debating between the Dickel and something else when an old timer walked in and straight snatched a bottle without even looking at anything else. Figured he knew something.

Gotta say I enjoy the aroma and it goes great over ice. Just a pleasant beverage to sip.

    I prefer Dickel over JD.
There is very little difference between Dickel and JD, the mash bills are similar if not the same, the water is virtually the same. They both follow the Lincoln Co. Process. The main difference is the an extra bit of filtering done at Dickel that to me improves the taste over JD.
