Greetings yall! My name is Mike, and I finally decided to sign up and become a member after years of peeping around posts.

Sonetime last week, I was an unfortunate victim of a rear end collision while waiting at a red light intersection. Luckily, it wasn't anything severe, the other persons absorbed most of the damage.. however, ever since that incident (in which I'm hoping is just a coincidence), my DRL's won't turn on when I set it to the DRL setting. It only turns on to the setting right above it (shown in picture), which is the setting that also turns on all the interior lighting, which is a bit frustrating. Can anyone help me with a solution?

Check DRL relay in the small box next to the main fuse box under the hood
And DRL fuse in Main fuse box

Something doesn't sound right - interior lighting shouldn't turn on with that stalk. The setting with the green check mark are your parking lights (small amber lights in the headlight) and yes - the DRLs should come on with those.

Otherwise check the setting in the head unit - I wonder if this could have gotten turned off somehow.

Maybe interior lighting is (dash switches and such) not the overhead ones. OP?

:smack:SR's don't have the DRL circuit that requires the relay or fuse...:burp:

Correct, that's what I meant. DRL lights only come on when switched to the green check mark in picture, which also turn on the dash lighting, not headlights

I got really excited when I went through the headunit settings and seen the DRL lighting settings were turned off... but unfortunately, even after turning them back on...they don't turn when the switch is set to DRL, and only come on when turned to the green check mark in picture, which also turns on the interior dash lighting / turns down head unit brightness

On the SR, the headlight assembly DRL's are the TURN signal. Are those turning on with the light stalk switch?
then again you have a '23. Does it have the LED headlights?

No lights turn on at all when turned on the DRL setting, however the lights do turn on with the setting above DRL thats marked with a green check mark on my photo. I will check fuses when I get home in about an hour or so

If you have the LED type headlight assemblies, then the DRL feature gets input from DRL circuit and Parking circuit. The turning ON at parking selected indicates fuse and/or relay and even control issue.
Since you've indicated that they do not (DRL) function at the DRL setting of the light stalk, the input from the parking circuit takes over for DRL illumination (DIM setting).
Let us know if you find the DRL fuse has done it job (blown).

Toyota DRLs have strange logic. They won't turn on until you start rolling in Drive or Reverse. The parking brake might also have an effect. That might only be the case if you start the car with the parking brake set. If you start it without the brake set, they might come on right away, but I'm not sure. Once they are on, I believe you can park and set the brake and they stay on until you turn off the ignition.

I didn’t even know what DRLs were until fairly recently. Apparently they were mandated by a recent Canadian law. I see little to no use for them. If it’s a dark gloomy day, I turn all my lights on. If it’s sunny, I turn all my lights off.

If it ever go north of border, I’ll be happy to have them. Maybe?

Sanity check… OP, are sure you are not confusing the parking lights with the daylight running lights? The setting above the DRL setting is for the parking lights.

After reading a bit about DRLs, it seems plausible that they do not turn on when parked and the engine off. I’ve never bothered to check the behavior.

I see suggest you take the truck on a drive, flip the switch to DRL, have your buddy hold the wheel, and then climb onto the hood and check it they are on.

It's supposed to be safer to have DRLs even when it's sunny. For example on rural highways with one lane each way separated by a double yellow line, DRLs help oncoming traffic see you if they are passing someone. Probably other situations too. For example It's easier to see a car with DRLs in your mirror with just peripheral vision.

My insurance gives a small discount for having DRLs.

I get it, but I’m gen x. We didn’t wear bicycle helmets and road in the back of pickups. :)

Caveat: I have been wearing bicycle helmets for the past couple decades and I no longer ride in the back of pickups.

Yep, I replaced the blown fuse this morning, and now it's working again. That little issue would have drove me nuts..Super glad I could save the embarrassment now since I wont have to point it out during my next maintenance/ service. I really appreciate your help, thank you!
