Keep in mind, the following observations and opinions are from a first time Toyota owner.
A guy in his later 60's that spent the last 24 yrs driving a standard shift, no frills, 98 Ford Ranger 4x4, single cab for a daily driver that's now about 280 miles from turning over 300k.

Now for the 24 TRD Sport, 5ft bed, 8 speed trans.
The good..
It's a great driving midsized truck. It's comfortable, smooth shifting and the engine has PLENTY of get up and go and It's fun to drive! The driver's seat is comfortable and all of the controls on the dash are easy to reach.

My dislikes..
The engine has a rattling sound at lower speeds that sounds to me like valve or lifter clatter. (There's a forum on this matter.)
Its suppose to have a tilt steering wheel, but the steering wheel itself doesn't tilt , it's the steering column that moves up and down (just a little).
When the LED headlights are on the dim setting, there's a definite thin line between what is well lit and easy to see (maybe 75-100 ft. out in front) but beyond this line it's almost completely dark and hard to see ANYTHING, and that's with the headlights directed up as high as they will go. With the brights on you can see a long way off.
Optional equipment. You will find it difficult to find very much in the way of aftermarket Optional equipment (Running Boards, Bed Covers) as most of these companies are still in the engineering and design phase for the redesigned 24 Tacoma.

The BAD!
As of yesterday I've had 4 Fault or Malfunction alerts pop up on my instrument panel.
1. 12-Volt Battery Charging System Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer
2. Grille Shutter Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer
3. Drive-Start Control Malfunction,. Visit Your Dealer
4. System Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer
Also, I pulled a 6x10 utility trailer last week and the truck still thinks there's a trailer back there and I haven't been able to get it out of trailer towing assist mode. This could just be me not being comfortable navigating the myriad of available settings. I tend to find that the simpler something is, the easier it is to navigate or operate and the more dependable it is over time! My opinion only!

I've scheduled a visit to my local Toyota Service Center next Monday 4/29, so the new Taco is out of service until then.

I like reading the real person reviews that people that fork over their own money, that use the truck for real world things have to say. Anyone that's willing to part with a ton of money can buy a new truck, but honestly, I'm more curious about the story behind a 300k ranger. That's impressive.

History on the Ranger huh? .. LOL , on a Tacoma site? Ok... I'll bite and give a short little Ranger history. We own (2) 98 Rangers. One is 2WD, single cab, automatic, 3.0L V6, 7 ft bed w/cap and has 88k original miles on the odometer and is in excellent condition for its age. We picked it up around 2004-05 with 36k miles on it for $3900.00
The other.. My Dailey driver, deer hauler, She's also a 98 model, 4x4, single cab, 3.0L V6, 6 ft bed w/5 spd man trans, hand operated windows and door locks. Bought it in 2000 with 29k miles on it for $10,000. Still looks and runs good except for some clear coat peeling off in a few spots. She has right around 299,720 miles on the odometer.
