Hello TW, new member here. I have a 2012 Tacoma 4x4, second owner and I am hoping some kind folks can help me with some feedback. I am in need of new tires, currently have Wrangler Duratrac. These came with the truck, super noisy and I had planned to sell/switch them up right when the world shut down. Live in the city but do venture to higher elevations, some snow, lots of rain and a little forestry road driving. Considering Cooper Discovery AT3 LT. They look like they will suit me well but I am curious if anyone has experienced the highway noise of the Duratrac vs. the Coopers? I find the Dura super loud, can barely hear conversations from the back seat when on the highway. I would truly appreciate any feedback the forum might have on the noise level from the Coopers. Thanks!!

Welcome to TW. :hattip:I swap Winters/Summers here but consider these. I couldn’t get ‘em but I understand they may be available in your area.

On my 2013 tacoma SR5 6spd 4x4 i run Hankook 265/75/16 AT2 LT E(10ply) Use the tacoma as a work truck in construction as well as towing a 5000lb RV and as a 4x4 overlander not much road noise. But then again I'm around noise constantly. You will get some noise from any all terrain tire. There are several good tires to choose from like the Falken, Hankook, Yokohama, etc it really comes down to what your individual needs are. The Hankooks really covers solid or above just about everything I'm looking for.
I run another set on my Nissan Pathfinder it's just not LT version. On my Nissan Altima i run Hankooks as well as their tires on my RV.

If sound is a concern I'd say possibly a highway all terrain tire although minimal off road and snow capability. I'd take the noise rather then capability.
Although i also added insulation to all the doors.

The coopers are nice a bit pricey but by no means a bad deal a buddy of mine runs them on a 2016 and they weren't loud but we thought slightly more then the Hankooks.
FYI i found the Hankooks do well in the snow ive ran through 14" of fresh powdered snow in 4wd low and in the rain they handled better then when i had BF Goodrich all terrain tires. It rains more then it snows in Jersey

You need to decide whether form or function are more important to you. If you want quiet, very durable tires that will last and are tough enough to over any gravel or dirt forest service roads I suggest Michelin Defender LTX. However, they are not designed to look cool.

I had Duratrac's several years ago and they were fine for the first year or so. But, as they wore, they got very loud. The Coopers should be much better. I have the Cooper ST Maxx and love them. I'm on my second set. Good luck with your purchase and welcome to TW!

Falked WildPeak ATW3's is what i switched to after having Duratracs, so much more quiet and performed quite well. i have never had issues in wet weather and am in the Snow all the time. my debate now is do i go with ATW4s when these are done or do a full on winter summer swap.
