    1999 Tacoma 2wd 2.4l W59 5spd trans.

Found out the other day that neither of my reverse lights are working. It's possible both bulbs are burnt out as the truck has 250k miles, but unlikely IMO.

I'll check for power/signal with a multimeter this weekend. Currently have no DTCs.

If there is no signal/power, where do the reverse lights receive a signal from? I know on the automatic it has a reverse light switch, is that the case with the manual? Thanks.

The Manuel trans also has a backup light switch.

Mine are out as well on my 99’ 4x4 Manuel, I just haven’t gotten around to changing the switch.

I replaced both bulbs and the fuse.

Ah didn't realize the manual has the same switch.

I'll check the bulbs and fuses first, then the switch last.

    Thanks.

I think you'll find them around $18-$20 or so if you check your local parts stores. $40 is outrageous for this switch.

Was yours intermittent at first and then went completely out?

As far as I know they've never worked since I bought the truck 8 months ago.

I would replace one of the backup bulbs and see if it lights. If it doesn't, I would replace the backup switch. It's easy to replace (whatever "easy" means) and accessible from the passenger side of the transmission. For instructions, search this forum for "back-up reverse switch replacement". There was a thread on this sometime in the last 6 months. Hope this helps.

Found the sensor on rockauto for like 13 dollars, and they also have bulbs for 25 cents a piece. Think I'll just get 6 bulbs for the rear lights and the sensor too since it's so cheap. If it's just the bulbs I'll have the sensor as a spare then.
