According to website 278hp with automatic but only 228 w/6spd manual. Why? can it be updated with a ecu flash?

Specs for the '24, the additional from the automatic is from an "intelligent electric motor" that adds HP to the automatic transmission.

    • 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder with 228 HP and 243 lb-ft of torque
    • Increased output of 278 HP with 317 lb-ft of torque with new 8-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence
    • Available 6-speed intelligent manual transmission with automatic rev matching
    • Up to 270 HP with 310 lb-ft of torque
    • i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with 326 HP with 465 lb-ft of torque
    • 48-HP electric motor with 8-speed automatic, 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack

Pretty sure the information is wrong. 6 speeds get a slightly detuned version with less torque, like 310ftlbs.

Every time they update the website they replace one error with 2 more. I'm not sure I trust anything on there at this point.

Yeah. I asked Toyota Brand Engagement (their front facing corporate email support) a couple weeks ago and their response cited the builder. Now, since the builder has changed, I wonder what they'll say. They need to get their sh** together since thousands of these (and hundreds of which are MT) have already been sold.

I got a boilerplate reply from them..

That's hilarious. Let me condense a bit.
"We are not responsible for any information we put on our website and we can and will change it on a whim without any verification of accuracy. So, if you are looking for reliable information look elsewhere. And suck it."

I don't think it is the case but don't let my comment influence a purchasing decision one bit. Despite my sarcasm I already have a 24' MT OR. I put a deposit on an MT back when 3rd gens were still in production and 4th gen MT availability was a question mark. So far I love it and haven't had any issues with the truck (about 1,000 miles now). However, it is frustrating trying to sort through conflicting specs on the website and to even figure out exactly what should come with the truck (wallet key, spare tire type/size, etc.). The folks on this forum seem to communicate and know their stuff better than whoever is handling Toyota's website & communications with dealers. Jeff Lange's technical spec thread is a great source of info. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2024-early-technical-information.818439/
