Both great spots. I really hope they repair Plaskett soon too, I love that area. And will do!

I've had my eye on a visit to Plaskett too. I want to visit the old ovens at Limekiln (Just north of Plaskett) and try some of the campsites in the vicinity. I have not explored that area much so far. - This must be addressed!

We did make it to Carrizo plains this past weekend.

It was beautiful. - And very busy. (Meaning all campsites were full...)

 

Shenandoah NP.

 

Super secret spot in the Canyon Lands. Secluded with amazing views. This place is magic. The first pic is really zoomed in.

 

I went and tried to get a clear view of the meteor shower last weekend up in Flagstaff. Nice and open area but the moon was too bright.



Then I went to Monument Valley, did the tourist thing, then over to Four Corners. That was anticlimactic. Then went back to Valley of the Gods. Pretty sure I accidentally ruined about four different RV'ers photos of the sunset, ha, whoops.

 

It’s also BLM, so you could have wheeled up into the mountain range to camp. Plenty of room to camp.

 

We were lucky and scored a nice spot at KCL. It was our first time camping at Carrizo. - Many folks did come looking for a spot later in the day...

I enjoy wild camping - Now that we know, we'll definitely do that next time.

There was a group of bikers at KCL. They were quiet and friendly. But the RV-ers with their yappy dogs, electric coffee grinders, horrible music, and general loudness were quite annoying.

 

I'll be checking out Valley of the Gods late August. Planning on running the 1st leg of the Utah BDR but in reverse from HWY 95 to Valley of the Gods, then head into Johns Canyon for a one night out-n-back.

 

For sure, camping near people is always a gamble. Good stuff you were able to find a spot and manage. Be careful on rainy days. It gets brutal there. There’s plenty to see being it’s 51 miles long and has some great wheeling trails/camping. Head into the mountains and you’ll come across established sites with rock rings ready to go. And the cool thing about it are the mountain ranges that flank the East and West. So much to see. The views are endless. The poppy’s haven’t been out that much for the past several years. And good thing you missed the migration. Thousands of black caterpillars cross the road heading in just past the salt flat area off the 166. Monarchs? I’ll have to look it up. One of the best spots to view the cosmos btw. Highly recommend binos as part of your arsenal. Celestron Skymaster PRO mated to an Oberwerk tripod.

This is the only place that gives off this odor, but a couple of visits ago I drove through one particular mud “lake” and when I got off the Taco further up the trail, I immediately was thinking which warf I was at!

 

Still on a bit of a high from last weekend. Camped in the go fast with another go fast buddy. Then took off on a bike packing trip for two days. Back to the trucks, this time to lake to rinse off and then set up camp again.

 

If anyone finds a yellow Liberty Works "Don't Tread On Me" metal water bottle near the Tuba City Airport, can you pick it up for me? Looks like I forgot to grab it off my bed and it rolled off, ha.

 

We did see migrating caterpillars! Many, many dozens crossing the road. It was an odd sight...
- I believe I managed to dodge all of them.

 

Big time , I felt like I was in a Formula 1 hot rod warming up the tires weaving back and forth.

 

Moab area. I slept in the bed of the truck, on the way to pickup my Harker EXO.

 

This past weekend. Makes me want to get a RTT...

 

That photo is sick. RTTs have a place. I really considered one. It really depends on your style of wheeling/camping and patience ratio. The main reason that stopped me is that I like to set up camp and go wheel/hit trails. So every time I leave camp I would have to pack up the RTT. I'm not sure I have the patience. Also, in my 40s over here so I'm a big fan of getting dressed while I'm standing up.

 

I was in the same boat. My wife and I were testing out a ground setup one trip. She woke me up after hearing a pack of coyotes howling. They made quite the noise that night, ha. Howling from different locations and supposedly she heard them roaming outside the tent. That was the last night on the ground.

I have done the setup, breakdown, wheel, setup, breakdown, and wheel routine before. Its not as bad as it could be and I totally get it. A good rebuttal to that would be not having to go back to the same spot if you don't want to. Done both of those too. And because of it, I have changed my setup a few times to make it easier and quicker.

 

As of this month you can truthfully tell her the Coyotes all packed up and left AZ for Utah, so it's safe to go back to your ground tent.

 

WOW!! came here looking to see what fuse to use for "add a fuse" slot for AUXBEAM switch and got sucked into this thread in .8 seconds! so many great posts. i've got a pup (@vitostaffy) and a Roofnest I haven't even put on top my roof rack yet! So excited to get out there my first spring in retirement!
