I have a burning oil smell on e driver’s side of my 2003 Tacoma. I did have a minor collision Last year but thought it just affected the grill guard and headlight. There is no oil leakage and the engine is not running hot at all. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's oil and not possibly transmission/transfer case oil? Is this a manual? Manual TX oil takes about a drop to stink up the truck for weeks. Have you changed it lately? Have a look under to see if there's any slow seepage around the TX or anywhere. Probably won't apply if it's an auto.

    I agree. Check there.

In my 99 manual, I had seepage at the top of my transmission where the shifter exits the housing. Never ever dripped down the side or leaked on the pavement. But I would smell gear oil when the trani would get hot and my window was down. Funny, but I only smelled mine after hard acceleration or cruising at highway speeds.

    V6?

Valve cover leaking onto exhaust? Doesn't take much to stink. Burnt off before it drips, no measurable loss.

Im with ^ on valve cover and it leaking ontop and burning off. Small leak like that wont cause a "drip" but will smell hellacious when driving. Usually doesnt smell at start up, takes 10-15 min of driving before youll notice if this is the case.

It’s an automatic. Thank everyone. I’ll look into the valve cover.
