The rear discs dont just bolt in, you need the full rear axle, on top of a solution for parking brake.

If you were to upgrade a 2023 I'd 100% buy new or reman calipers from a 4runner listing, not used.

I feel like if I still drove mountains I'd upgrade the front for sure, but losing 16" wheel options doesnt work for me.

Everything I've read says you change the backing plates not the complete axle.
Plus isn't the 4Runner a coil spring rear suspension?
The SOS kit just swaps backing plates...... And it uses factory parking brakes.
Sure you have to pull the axle shafts to get the stock plates off but you have to cut the stock drum plates off for an SOS retrofit kit which also uses factory parking brakes.
As for not wanting 17" or larger wheels, quite a few trucks came with 17" wheels as original equipment.

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
Many of us 4th gen 4Runner pilots upgrade to 5th gen brakes and calipers.. there are many who have reported seized calipers, I don’t think 08 parts are going to upgrade anything..

For a 4Runner it's not an upgrade, for a 3rd gen Tacoma it is.

unsure of your brake specs I suppose,

would that also make gen 5 T4R stuff work for you? I’m just curious, and can understand if something is a good deal!

    5th gen, I dunno....
The 3rd gen Tacoma is a 319 front disc with rear drums while the 4th gen 4Runner Sport is offered with 338 front disc and rear disc.
Not a lot of additional braking force, and definitely a weaker parking brake, but a bit more and definitely better heat soak characteristics for the service brakes by upgrading.
