Generator on a tandem axle trailer equipped with Lenette ring, wet weight is 6050lbs. Our truck has 3" square receiver and pintle hitch. It will be on the road for a month throughout the southern states.

Is there a lock I can put on the the trailer hitch while hooked up to the truck?

I can put a lock on the Lenette ring but that mean I have to uncouple the trailer every night, and hook it up every morning.

Have you considered a wheel lock?
A lot of guys here run a wheel lock.

    Google "Trailer Wheel Lock"

I've also put a heavy duty padlock on the trailer chains before (not stressed, but just tying the chain to the truck loop).

    Make sure it's insured.

Bicycle lock on the pintle hitch? They do make a locking pin for the receiver.

Not sure if they still make them but Master has/had a hitch lock that slides over the end the trailer hitch itself. There is a hole on the bottom that you insert an allen wrench and turn an internal screw into the trailer frame where the hitch ball would be when towing. When it's tight, it cannot be moved (slid off). There is lock that when you turn it rolls a round metal cylinder to block the hole. You do have to remove the trailer from the hitch ball, but only enough to slide the lock over the end of the hitch to install or remove it. It's made of hardened steel that as you can see doesn't rust. I have had this on various trailers and campers for years. This one is 1-7/8". They had them for all the different sizes of hitches. There is probably a more modern version now. You can also buy locking hitch pins for the draw-bar if you don't want to remove it from the receiver.

This is in the consideration: Log chain through both the trailer rims with pad lock on the inboard side.

Both the truck and generator are insured. Don't care about the lost of property, only concerned about finding a proper replacement in a short time from the middle of nowhere.

There are plenty of locks made for the hitch, but I have no lucking finding one to lock the hitch and trailer coupled in place some way the ball hitch locks.

Not many hotels have places where you can back up a 55ft rig to a wall overnight.

Never came across something that could secure both hitched together either. They have hitch trigger locks, but they always gave the me the impression that they would be easily defeated with a few hits with a sledge: too much play/sloppy fit.

See the Lock Picking Lawyer to see how effective any padlock or hitch lock works...then get a 5 ton bottle jack, Dewalt cordless impact driver, and pull one wheel off every night. Sounds terrible, but check LPL and see what's worth it.

tandem axles, he will need to pull two, and the spare, and frankly someone might still swap on from the other side anyways and drive away, so he’d have to take 4 tires into the hotel every night for a month
