Getting started on the front end rebuild today. Turned out to be a beautiful day, couldn’t ask for better weather. Looks like my old mid travel reservoir mounts might work as well

 

That's great stuff man, I dig the use of protection

 

The blue tape has served me well on past projects. Taking it all off is going to suck but should keep things looking nice

 

Blue tape costs less than new paint/powder coat...

 

How much did you accomplish yesterday?

 

Didnt even finish up one side, I was taking it slow. Got most of it squared away this morning, just need to do limit strap tab and brake line then passenger will be done and on to the other side

 

You gonna bring that thing to Jambo?

 

I haven’t decided if I am going to make it out this year, it’s about 9 hrs to Barnwell Mtn from where I am at. Is this taking place in may? It would be way more fun now that I have a better chance of not getting stuck on Solihull lol.

 

Got moving today and wrapped up both sides except for limit straps and an alignment. Needs one pretty bad, there’s a good amount of positive camber on the driver side. Getting closer now though. I took the 3/4” bora spacers off the front so it’s 1.5” wider than it was before. Fit and finish was great overall, I am very happy with that.

Sounds like a good time lol. What’s the plan for the taco? Still working on refreshing the motor?

It needs all the gussets.. I may be buying a MIG soon to start doing this type of stuff

 

I am in process of looking for one. Cheapest I found the company seems like a scam. $1700 shipped. Next cheapest is $2500 before shipping, but they seem legit. Just gotta go ahead and pull the trigger.

 

2500 isn't bad for a good engine to be rebuilt. I've paid more than that.

 

it wouldn’t be rebuilt. They claim to do the standard checks, but thats it. I’d check lash, compression, scope the pistons, new chain and components, and reseal the common leaks like timing cover and rear main

 

Even easier.

 

Been doing a few little odds and ends lately. Got a temporary driveshaft safety loop on. I used a 17” limit strap mounted to the stock carrier bearing location. I plan to build one out of aluminum eventually but this will do for now. Also did an alignment since the truck has settled a little up front.


Got a set of Rokblokz mudflaps installed for oversized tires today in an effort to keep the rocks from blasting my windows. They fit great up front even though my flares had been trimmed on the bottom. I just used two of the mounting points provided instead of three. I plan to make a bracket for the middle to take care of that though. Also ordered a PrimeWeld MIG welder and that should be here soon, so I’m pretty excited for the next few months

 

Now it's really ready for rally time.

 

BorgWarner EFR 6258 has been ordered. It will bolt up to everything I’ve got right now and should spool a good bit quicker

Also ordered another 3rd gen taco air box to try and retrofit that. Might be building a bracket to clear the wastegate but I am pretty determined to make it fit this time around.
