New here but not new to Yotas...

I'm looking to buy a 1st or 2nd gen 4-cyl Taco and am very seriously thinking of adding a supercharger for high altitude mountain road and off-road use.

I'm very reluctant to go with an automatic with a 4-cyl, but have had no luck finding a manual and there are a couple very low mileage 4cyl automatics for sale in my area.

Wondering if anyone has a supercharger on a 4-cyl with an auto and/or if anyone has thoughts as to this combo?

I like the 4cyl for the mpg, longevity, lighter weight, etc and think that with a supercharger I'd have sufficient power for my needs, just not sure about the auto tranny...

The A340 has been around for a long time.
It was in the Tundra and the Supra.

It can take around 300HP / 300TQ. Which is a lot more than the 2.7 will make with an "out of the box" stock parts and tune.

    Of course, like anything.
If you beat on it, it's going to break.
    (everything does)

thanks, less concerned with killing the tranny with abusive driving, more just general "drive-ability".
I'm an old dude without a bunch of extra $ and I drive to avoid breaking things as much as possible.
That said I live and play in the mountains (Colorado). I drive steep passes daily. I don't go 4-wheelin for the sake of wheelin but I do camp/hunt/explore the backcountry frequently.
I guess I'm mostly thinking of how the auto behaves behind a 4-cyl when driving steep mountain passes. I've never actually owned an automatic, but I hear they tend to downshift/over-rev when trying to do the speed limit up those passes, and wondering how a supercharger (along with a custom tune?) might influence that dynamic... if that makes any sense...

I was think of that when I had an 83 4x4 - a supercharger with 6 psi would take you back to sea level. They make a procharger kit for a 4.0 4 runner - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCUx0FOv6aA. This could be made to fit the 4 banger & yea a custom tune.
