Your post is a little vague. I'd pass on 3rd gens if you're looking to buy used. Lots of good used 2nd gen trucks. No reason to handicap yourself with a 2nd or 3rd gen 4 cyl. Not enough difference in price nor fuel mileage to go with the 4 cyl. Lots of difference in performance.

The new 2024's have my interest, they only come with the 4cyl engines. One with a turbocharger, one without. I'd get the turbocharged one. But to be honest, they are too new. I'd wait a year if interested in buying new to see how they work out.

In general the first years of a new gen are more prone to issues that get resolved in later models which is why I bought a 2014 I4. I don’t understand the “lack of power”comments for a truck I use to haul full gvwr up steep hills. Sure, it doesn’t accelerate as quickly but that’s not the only criteria. I think altitude is more relevant so if your rural area is well above sea level or you traverse mountain passes regularly then you’ll definetly want either boost or a bigger engine but lowland plains the I4 is just a solid, reliable workhorse that runs forever and hauls whatever the truck can carry.

I am in north Idaho and found the used market in Boise not so good. I specifically wanted a low miles 2015 DC 4x4 and found seattle and portland used market much better. Just bought mine in Portland 2 weeks ago.

Now the important stuff. Can you point me to some low pressure hunting and good chukar numbers to try for next season? I can PM you about this if you can. Thanks

"I recently traded my 2009 Tacoma in for a new 2023 model. The engineers and decision makers should be shot for putting out a vehicle with the transmission the 2023 Tacoma has. What were the engineers thinking? The transmission is the worst I’ve had in my life. The lag in response and the constant downshifting to get any kind of acceleration is so pathetic that it totally ruins the whole driving experience. Anybody else agree? Toyota makes a great product but they really dropped the ball on this one. Who, in the powers that be, would actually think this transmission is good for public consumption? It’s going to take a while to get used to stepping on the gas seconds before I need the power. It’s actually a safety hazard in my opinion. You decide to turn or pass someone and the response is just not there. The engineers should be fired, shot and then pissed on."

But you did. You just changed your user name. Not everyone is as dumb as you are.

I am totally confused on how you tied this guy to the other guy. I see no resemblance between the two accounts whatsoever.

I believe he was linked to the same account before he created a second account. And if I'm wrong (stranger things have happened, tongue in cheek) then homeboy obviously needs an anger management course for letting himself get into a tizzy by some rando poster on the internet like myself.

The account you are replying to is from 2016. The account you linked to is from 2023 and seems completely separate. I think you made a mistake in your assumption of the accounts being linked. He probably got into a tizzy for being a called a shit stirrer for no reason.

BTW, how do you like the 5.29 gears? I bet with the manual your truck hauls in the lower shift range.

I really like them. Definitely no regrets on the ratio choice. It is still very laggy down low if you end up in 2nd gear in a slow speed situation and all of a sudden need to speed up.

I do like it though. I felt like in stock form, 4th gear was a poor passing gear (as was 5th). Now, 5th gear is where 4th used to be, which is what I use for towing, and 4th is a good passing gear good for up to above 100 mph. 3rd maxes our around 90 so it’s really good for passing, if I won’t need to go beyond 90. 6th cruises real nice, 2900@70.

I’ll like it all even better when I can swap my transmission to the 2024 model and it’s lower R-1-2-3 ratios.

I have no idea about how the "other" post got made using my name, but I have never owned a 2009 truck of any make. BTW, I tried getting in and out of the 4th Gen Tacomas and found it next to impossible. They were not designed for anyone 6' or over. I ended up buying a 2021 Colorado ZR2 with the 6 cyl. So far, so good.

I like the sound of those lower gear ratios. I wouldn't mind swapping my trani out for the 2024 model, as well.

I love my manual, but notice also if I'm not revving my rpm's when I go into 2nd, then it really lags if I suddenly decide I want to pick up speed.
