    Hey, All!

So my quest for a 23 TRD OR MT wasn’t fruitful. Now I’m on the hunt for a 24 TRD OR MT.

I was checking out the specs and Toyota lists that the OR comes with composite skid plates that cover the front, underbody and fuel tank and the Trail Hunter is coming with steel skid plates over the engine, transfer case, rear differential and fuel tank.

Anyone have any thoughts on composite vs steel skid plates?

Can anyone with a 24 TRD OR tell me if the skid plates cover all the same parts as the Trail Hunter and catalytic converters?

    Thanks!

I'm too lazy to get underneath right now. I think this shows them all if you want to turn off the sound and skim through for the skid plate shots. I don't recall any difference between the middle plate on my MT and the one in the video. No oil change cutouts so you have to unbolt both plates in the front to drain the oil and remove the filter.

They are plastic so bleh. The plastic seems pretty tough as far as plastic goes but I wouldn't trust them for anything but mild offroad situations and keeping muck & gravel from being thrown up into the undercarriage. Will likely look into aftermarket steel plates if for no other reason than to get some with oil change cutouts.

    Thank you very much!!!
I agree with the oil filter cut-out. You answered my question with plastic “bleh.” HA!!!!! Guess I’ll ignore it and go with aftermarket. CBI looks like they have some nice ones. I want to make sure that it covers the catalytic converters, too.

BTW I was in the exact same situation. Was in the market for a 23' MT but it took so long after I put down a deposit that I had to go to '24 for new. And the dealer told me I was the first of 5 people in line for MT ORs. I get the feeling Toyota purposely limits MT production to quite a bit less than what they could actually sell. Or maybe it's just my region. He couldn't even remember the last MT they sold.

I'm not familiar with the TH skid plate config.

Sorry - I'm guilty of abbreviating too much. At first I was really disappointed that I couldn't get a new 3rd gen and definitely wasn't excited about buying a turbo or the 1st year of a new model run. But after about 1k miles nothing has gone wrong yet (fingers crossed) and I am enjoying it.

Good luck getting your manual and may the rest of your wait be short!

All good on the abbreviations. I should have picked up on it. Heh! Thanks, hopefully I’ll find one. The only one I really like was the bronze in Michigan and it went quickly.
