i didn't know about this thread.

not so much 'chase lights', as i'm about 25 hours from the nearest offroad race, but i did do backup lights so i can see behind me. i generally prefer to see things BEFORE i hit them...

i used a set of 'side-shooter' lights. specifically, i needed a version that the outer lens is easily removable, with a steel base for welding, and preferred a version that was somewhat rectangular/narrow to keep it from dropping down too far.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DFVD72X/

the whole reason for the removable lens is so that i could add a piece of lenticular film in front of the spot reflectors to further diffuse and spread the light behind the truck, because i'm more concerned with brightness within the first 10', and don't care about distance beyond that.

i welded a longer 1/4-20 bolt to the mounting bracket, and then used a conduit spacer to drop it down just below the bumper to optimize the aim.

it turned out very nice, with output exactly how i wanted-- from the rear tires back.

Here is the Auxbeam coated in silt, and at an angle. My headlights are on, so you can see that my taillights are barely showing up as on.

It did ok I think for the cost, but if you're spending all day in the silt (think Baja Peninsula), you probably want something that strobes, and is at the top of the vehicle. I saw a few Baja Designs S2 lights on trucks and they didn't do any better. So, my opinion is, if you are mounting a small light somewhere below the roof line of the truck, anything that is at least as bright as this Auxbeam will do, without spending big bucks on BD or even Diode Dynamics....

Anyone have a temporary solution for chase lights? Something for cheap for just a weekend that will work with cap.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I don't have any pictures, but I bought a pair of lights, wired one to a flat 2 connector (think trailer connector, but 2 wire). The first 2 wires on your flat 4 are ground and running (tail) lights. I then mounted it to a very strong magnet that I had, which would stick well to my aftermarket bumper. You could easily find a way to bolt it to something, I'm sure.

Factor 55 hitch light maybe the quickest plug and play quick option out there

I will say it kinda sucks as a chase light it's too low and disappears over every little dip in the road but still better than nothing

Before I permanently installed mine I had the idea of buying whatever amber chase light or bar I wanted and then using a 5 pin adapter (if you have the tow package) to power it off your headlight circuit. How you mount it to the cap is however you want to do it. In my case, I have a soft cap, so I was going to velcro it (my topper uses velcro) or use a magnet if I could find enough steel to stick on to. Pretty easy just using the existing wiring though.

Currently have a pair of white pods and a pair of amber strobes on the rear bumper. Gonna transfer the pods to the new high clearance bumper but maybe I can have my shop mount the strobes to the left/right of the 3rd brake light on my Leer cap. I guess they can drill 2 holes into the fiberglass, waterproof and then install a switch for a steady glow. Definitely want something up high.

This is not quite a chase light as much as it is a reverse/ area light. I did a single LightForce Rok40 flush mount wired to switch pro. I have another I was going to mount by moving the trailer brake plugs to underneath, however I really dig the asymmetric look and this has been plenty of light.

This looks pretty damn good but without a rack not sure where I’d mount it.
