New to Forum and Tacoma...Have money down on a 2010 you see in my pic, taking it to a mechanic tomorrow.....160,000 miles....manual tranny, 2.7

This truck was Recall inspected by Toyota and had frame cleaned and coated(circa 2019), or whatever they did, not replaced. It seemed solid to me when I did hammer test, but did have 2 dime size holes on bottom by LF cab mount. Not sure what to do....my 2000 suburban is super rusty, but as bad as it is I have no worries it will break in half. Heavy surface rust, no holes.
Is there a year or years that the Tacoma did not have problems with Rust?

I know that subject to where you live and such but I’m talking generally.

That’s smack in the middle of the Tacoma frame rust years

pictures would let us give you a recommendation

You don’t say where you are from, but if it’s Arizona like your username suggests, then don’t even bother, just walk away

All of them are susceptible to frame rust. Toyota even mailed me letter about my 3rd gen. Said the frame was covered for 10 years.

FYI pictures would really help with suggestions. I'd say maybe it wouldn't be a bad buy if the rest of the frame was impeccable. If it isn't nearly perfect I'd walk.

If it rusted enough to create 2 holes in the frame, you can bet that other parts of the frame is also rusty. Especially up near the cats. They tend to rust on the inside.

the 2 dime sized holes seems odd. Pretty solid with the hammer. I have a car hoist, needle scaler, sand blaster and a welder, some work is fine but not sure I'm looking for a BIG project.

Thanks, I wish I would have taken pics when I crawled around underneath it with a hammer.

Get your money back and walk away. That truck is outside the frame recall time limit. Find yourself a truck with a better frame and treat it yearly with Fluid Film or something similar.

    Thanks all!
I went to get it, asked if I could take it to my mechanic (long story: a friend’s in a different city), they said OK…….see pic. I guess they didn’t charge my card for the deposit and we walked

Are there any Tacoma’s that are still currently in a frame recall, certain years?

Maybe 2015s cuz it was 10 years from the day they were purchased. That'll take some digging to find out for sure

The 1st Gens had a 15 year from in service date and the 2nd Gens had a 12 year from in service date and I’m not sure about the 3rd Gens.

You have 12 years from in service date. 2012 is done with frame warranty in 2024.
