What up—— What do you think about an oil change for a new-to-me 2016 Tacoma SR 2.7? It has 83k on it and I don’t know the oil change history. I want to change it and get this maintenance item and other items “reset” for my ownership. For what it’s worth, the oil in it now looks clean when I pull the dipstick. Although the maintenance is unknown, the previous owner did care enough to get it in to the dealer and get the frame treated in time for the zka program extension…

anyway - just swap the oil and filter and keep going at 5k/6 mo intervals?

    do quicker intervals?

    do some sort of treatment/flush?

    thanks

Don't overthink it. Just change the oil and do the regular intervals.

If the oil looks clean the previous owner probably did an oil change pretty recently.

If you bought it from a dealer, they should have done an oil change before they put it on the lot as part of the inspection process. Your carfax should have also listed it if they had it serviced at the dealer or a repair shop (the only reason I have my oil changed at the dealer).

Yeah I think the dealer changed it but they don’t have any records on the Toyota maintenance history site except for the frame treatment for the warranty/service bulletin k0d.

hopefully they changed the fluids on time :fingerscrossed:

50 bucks or so and 30 minutes for peace of mind? No brainer IMO

    Enjoy the new truck

5/6k is great. I would change the diff oil, transmission too. Plugs in the V6 are due at 60k - idk about the 4banger but you could do those too.

Create your own baseline and move on.

If you were going to fret over past care you should have done that before purchase.

0w20, 10k OCIs like the manual says, unless your use meets the severe duty criteria. Then use those guidelines.

Take the oil cap off and see what the inside of the engine looks like, if it's clean your good. If it's all black and sludgy looking it probably wasn't maintained very well.

Change oil every 10k, whatever brand of synthetic on sale. Your engine will last far longer than you own the truck

As long as the prior owner didn’t beat on it, that 2.7 is so stout that it would practically operate another 250k mi on maple syrup…

But if changing now versus waiting to the next scheduled interval makes you feel better, then why not.

I'd drain/flush/fill everything if I didn't know for sure. Peace of mind.

Change all fluids and filters and hit the road. Change sparkplugs if you're unsure if they've ever been done. Inspect accessory belt too in case it looks old. Check the date on the battery too.

Avoid 10k m oil change intervals and you'll be just fine

The Carfax report for mine shows all the oil changes that were done at Grease Monkey. The Toyota site only shows what was done at Toyota, or you can log your DIY maintenance there going forward.

I do my own maintenance, write it down in a notebook and leave it in the glove box for the next owner. I know it is probably a boomer thing but I am an analog guy in a digital world.
