Tacoma, Goodbye Forever

In 15 years I have had 3 Tacomas. They are OVERRATED!!
The only one worth a damn was the 95'. my second GEN's have been nothing but problems, at least $3000 a year in repairs, not counting the $13,000 free frame replacement. It is time to say goodbye to Toyota Tacomas FOREVER!

Whatcha getting next? My 07 frontier continues to be a very reliable vehicle.

Tbh the Tacoma is a great all rounder but does not excel in any specific department. If you need a farm truck or light work truck, it's a great buy. As a family hauler or dedicated DD it's just okay.

Toyota will probably lose me forever too once I get rid of my current truck in many years.
Build quality has gone downhill as evidenced by the 3rd gen 2GR-FKS and now the move to the $50k 4th gen makes no sense for a midsized

Sounds like a mid-life crisis.. you are just getting bored and want some excitement.. what is more exciting than getting a less reliable vehicle

 

In 17 years I've had one. If you exclude normal stuff like tires, batteries, brakes, etc., I haven't spent $3000 total in those 17 years/246,000 miles.

Some guys can break an anvil with a rubber hammer.

 

He probably just has frustration towards the vehicle and manhandles it causing more deterioration.

So, you’ve had two second gen’s … which ones? My 07 V6 4x4 has been a peach , mechanically speaking. I did have issues with fan blower connector, clock spring, and temp display but those were easy to fix and are functioning as intended. I never did get rid of the squeaking leaf springs but I just raise the volume on the radio.

This declaration is meaningless without detailed context.

Did you buy the Tacomas new? If new, did you have regular dealer/warranty maintenance every 5K miles?
What year(s) are they, and what engines?
If you bought them used, from whom and with how many miles on them? First-owner vehicles, or two-or-more previous owners?
If used, what was the maintenance history on them?

What climate / geographical area did the trucks live in? Rust belt or no? Once you started driving them, what maintenance patterns did you follow? How often did you change the oil? How did you drive & use the truck? Frequent off-roading and/or heavy towing? Do you tend to work out your anger/impatience through the gas pedal?

When parts did need replacing, were they OEM parts or cheap knock offs?

Solid answers to ALL of the above are a good start on understanding the lifespan of the vehicles OP is complaining about.

Without detailed & candid facts, the statements are just lazy throw-away remarks.
