2021 SR5, IPhone 14 no notifications or turn by turn

Greetings to the knowledge base,

I have a wireless dongle that works great with texting, calling, mapping etc. However, I do not get audible notifications when I receive a text message. I only receive a popup on the infotainment system. I miss these inasmuch as I'm looking where I am going. Also, mapping works, but I do not get any turn by turn audible instructions. Since my wife is not with me all the time, I need some help driving. Just kidding to the wife tacoma drivers.

I am sure there is a setting somewhere this new tacoma driver is missing. Please help.

I have found Apple Car play on my base model Toyota head unit generally unreliable/finicky. I often have to futz with it. Reboot the head unit. Reboot the phone. Unplug, plug it back in. Make sure your usb cable is good.
