I use carplay with my new 2024 Tacoma Off Road. I live in a rural area with limited cell service.

However, I have noticed that often with carplay connected, even in areas where I have ample wireless service, my phone is unable to connect to data. I had the phone diagnosed at the Apple Store and was told that the phone works properly. They blamed the network.

However, like I said, this problem can happen when I have service. I have even stopped my car a few times - turned the car off - and the phone seems to regain data access...turn the car back on and the problem returns.

Any ideas on this? Do I have a setting somewhere I need to change? It is odd because it isn't consistent and I can't always reproduce it....

One thing you can try is going into the cellular settings and change it to use LTE only.

Interesting. That's an easy change so I'll give it a try today.

Sadly that didn't seem to help. It is odd. At one point today I stopped the car and turned it off. Then the phone worked. But once it connected to carplay again, no more data. Also, the phone and sms appears to work - but not data.......

@taco terror Do you know if it is possible to use carplay but not use wifi? I wanted to have the phone access the LTE networks around so it could get data for maps and music mostly - but I didn't think wifi would be needed for that. It's just frustrating because in my previous car carplay was wired but it worked!
