Patch is riveted in. Sorry no pics of the sealant or the riveting.

This was a messy job and reaching under the boat to hold the rivet bucket killed my back!

The only thing that cuts that 732 sealant is acetone. Wasn't touching my phone until I was all cleaned up.

 

The tabs that hold the rear seat in position were broken or about to break. I just fabbed straps that run the full width of the seat. Probably overkill, but it worked out great and looks good too.

 

Note: the foam floatation under this seat was a mouse hotel!

As soon as I removed the rear seat, I tossed it out the door! Needless to say, this boat smelled like mouse piss in a bad way!

The owner can buy his own can spray foam and inject new flotation.

Then again, riveting is a great skill set to have.... And totally get the because you can aspect.

Steiner/Ventracs are no harder to work on than the zeros' you fix all the time. Got hydro pumps & small motors.

I heard that back in the day, IH was selling their vehicles mostly through their tractor dealers.

I'd love an old Scout, but there aren't many left around here - they had a reputation to rust worse than just about anything else on the road. In restored condition, they're going for big $$.

 

I had about 10 full size Jeeps - the V8 powered body on frame ones built by AMC.
I always said that nothing could rust better than a big Jeep -- except any light truck built by International Harvester. Owning them is how I taught myself to weld.




They are a fabulous vehicle to drive, no blind spots due to the thin 1960's design pillars, surprisingly nimble too. They actually look larger than they are.
