Is this an SR5 or TRD Sport?

    Hello!

I'm trying to purchase my first Taco and I'm conflicted. I found this about 600 miles away from me. I specifically asked if it was a TRD Sport, because it says that on TrueCar.com but on the dealer website, it says its an SR5. It's a clean vehicle either way. They told me it was a TRD Sport. I was happy. I was going to meet them halfway to do the swap.

We negotiated a price and a trade-in. I get the paperwork in the mail and the official paperwork says it is an SR5. I used the VIN number at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/decoder website.

The dealership is trying to say its still a TRD Sport. The issue I'm fighting with is I don't think it should be priced this high.

What do all of you think? I really like this truck, but I can wait for another to come along.

    Thank you!

TRD Sport, doesn't appear to have the Tow Package though if it matters.

Under mechanical & performance it list all the “towing” stuff.
Toyota eliminated the ATF cooler on later models.

It has all the other stuff that a “tow package” would have……

Ah I missed that but it's typically listed under Packages/Accessories

Ah it's included in the TRD Sport package I guess that's why it's not listed separately.

RE: the tow package, it comes wired to tow but it does not have a brake controller; you will need to buy one like a RedArc or Tekonsha (other?) if you want to control a set of trailer brakes. If you have a boat with a surge brake or are towing light weight trailers you should be good ( < 3000# I believe by law is the threshold --- over 3k brakes are required by most state DMVs IRRC). Without a brake controller you'll just have lights, blinkers, etc. when you plug in.
