I dig the new canyon. It looks like a toy truck I had when I was a kid.

GMC has the looks but thats it. If they ever get around to making something that doesn't fall apart they will be in good shape

With how things have gone over the last few years, no doubt there is a bit of a correction coming on all fronts and I think it will hit Toyota and Tacomas just as much as anything else.

    2019-2022
    • Years of economic growth and progress, though COVID was an initial slow down and then BOOM
    • Interest rates went to nearly zero and everyone got used to buying anything they wanted with free money to boot
    • Automakers accelerated the (consumer-driven) shift from passenger cars to trucks and SUVs due to higher profit margins
So... sustained period of economic growth and high buyer confidence + 0% interest rates + everyone wants trucks and SUVs = automakers thinking there is no ceiling on this trend, and not being shy about feature and price increases.

    2023-2024:
    • Economy is slowing down and in some cases, stagnating
    • Interest rates are 7-9% due to inflation
    • Automobiles are significantly more expensive in part because of technology, but also in part because automakers got greedy with pricing and packaging
    • No real wage growth
So... economic growth has slowed down and buyer confidence is low + highest interest rates in 20 years + no wage growth + nobody can afford new vehicles = market correction because the conditions that gave way to $60-100k trucks and SUVs over the last 4 years has completely collapsed.

I'm not a doomsdayer and not saying the 4th gen Tacoma is no good, but Tacoma has always been seen mostly as a utility vehicle, not a luxury one. People want, need and depend on them for their jobs and families. Now Tacoma pricing has blown up to what was luxury car pricing just a few years ago (while average wages havent increased) and whether it's interest rates coming down, incentives, or something else, people just can't afford them like they could before. Same for pretty much all vehicles -- not just Tacoma.

Toyota got greedy and lowered reliability/quality of their products. People notice. The old Toyota products are better in my opinion. They are living off an old reputation and charging people more for it. 4.0s, 3.4s, 2.7s etc were great.

It isn’t just Toyota. Their distributors and dealers are greedy, too. That creates a big problem for buyers.

Exactly. People have started to realize that Toyota is still trying to charge a premium for durability, quality and reliability, when in all reality they are no better than the competition anymore.

22r Anyone have an old one with this I did I loved it!
80’s pickup I miss that truck.
My 08 was a 2.7 ended up consuming oil at like 170k.
Got totaled T-boned ins paid very well!
My 2012 had the 4.0 a lot of low end torque.
It was just what I could find after the 08 was put down. Frame had more rust than I was comfortable with.
Looking for a 2nd gen that wasn’t rusted wasn’t going well here in VT.
Saw this 18 on chevys lot and here we are!IMG_9909.png so far so good no leaks been a good rig!
Love the look family kid dog friendly.
A lot of tech but everything now has a lot of tech.

All I know is within the last month I see tons of ‘24’s sitting around and my truck’s value has gone up.

Whatever people are doing (or not doing), thank you, and please keep it up.

Plenty of people with a lot of money still buying 24s blindly, i envy people with that kind of money to pay 60k for a Tacoma

We just picked up a '24 TRD Off-Road for just under $45K (MSRP $50,110). It's the interest rates that make the price hurt. Credit unions are the best bet... got 6.2%, Toyota offered 8.5%!

I think it's not just the price scaring people away, but the 4cyl. I was skeptical too. However, having driven it for a few weeks now, the power is not an issue. We will be making parts soon for the new platform. Having had '05 and '08 Tacomas, glad to be back in a Taco! Still have a '10 Tundra, '78 LandCruiser, and '85 4Runner.438222368_879322550878646_41398473378205_c3983bc5a8be403f6a7a9cbaf5269ddad49daabc.jpg

We also got a '22 Bronco 2DR about a year and a half ago for $40k. The Bronco is a beast off-road from the factory (Base model with 2.7L V6 & Sasquatch package - F&R Lockers, 35s). I would recommend it over a Jeep Rubicon.

They should keep building the 3rd gen and call it the Tacoma Classic.

But put the 4.0 out of the 4runner in it. I would buy 2.

I owned two 5th gen 4Runners and will never understand the obsession with the 4.0L. The engine is fine, but with that transmission, it takes 30 seconds, an airplane runway, and drinks 3 gallons of dinosaur juice just to make a gear change. If Toyota updated it with a 6AT or an 8AT, that would have helped a lot but that particular powertrain combo is an absolute dog and good at nothing other than reliability.

Would I prefer a V6 on the 4th gen Tacoma? Yes. But after owning those two 4Runners and a 3rd gen Tacoma, I think the turbo 4 with more torque and 8 gears would easily be my choice for day-to-day drivability.

I drove a few of the early 3rd gen Tacoma V6s so I know how crappy the early transmission tuning was, but as an owner of a 2023 Taco... 3.5L 2GR-FKS + 6AT > 4.0L 1UR-FE + 5AT 7 days out of 7, and twice on Sundays.

I assume they’re getting a nice truck b/c that’s what they tell us…but at these rates, yikes.
