After owning my 1996 T10 for 27 years, I finally upgraded to a 2024 Toyota SR5 Tacoma while I like the new truck I was pulling out of my driveway and rock went all the way through my brand new Toyo Open Country HT factory tire at 400 miles and ripped a chunk out is not repairable. I feel these tires are very unsafe. What would have happened if I was going 55? I’m wondering if anyone else has IMG_3579.jpg IMG_3355.jpg Highway tire has had similar issues I do believe it’s a factory designed by Toyota flaw and very unsafe. So far Toyota Motors hasn’t given any support on this issue on my own

I’m no expert but the damage seems to be superficial only. I’m glad you’re paying attention to your tires, as most people don’t realize how important they are, but I don’t think this is worth worrying about.

WOW! 27 years is impressive, and that truck looks like it was kept in immaculate condition.

Tire is not repairable Toyota wants 300 for new tire no warranty under new truck tires.

There is no warranty for new tires unless it is a defect in the tire manufacture. Unfortunately you just got unlucky and hit a sharp edged rock the wrong way. It could have just as easily happened at 400 miles or 40,000 miles.

Toyota does not make or design tires.

Tires have separate paperwork / warranty in the documents you should have received. Road hazards (what you experienced) may not be included, but read to verify.

You do not need to buy a replacement from the dealer. As you can tell, they already don't care.

Maybe member @Discount Tire can offer some recommendations

This. You should have separate tire warranty information, probably with the owners manual.

Just take the tire off the spare and get a cheap Chinese tire for the spare. It should be a Toyo tire like mine, which ironically the rest of the tires are Firestone.
