I have RUD 4x4 Grip chains for emergencies. You can put them on without moving the rig.
They are fairly light weight chains, with light weight chain on the sidewall and 3/16" square link on the tread. They need at least 5/8" inner tire clearance to fit on the front. Spacers or wheels with a bit of offset in the right direction works a treat.

    Cheers

Studs help on ice but don't don't add anything for snow. Go with Nokian Hakkapeliitta on all 4 rims.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
Makes more sense to use snowmobile, if that much snow...

Well after talking to three tire shops and local Toyota service manager and also the parts manager it is clear nobody around here has a clue. The parts manager is going to contact the head office to see if he can get clarification. He says that Toyota North America has no recommendations for chains and it is his understanding no chains are officially recommended. He says that in fact he saw Toyota brand marked sets of tire chains specifically for the Tacoma. I explained to him that in the olden days when I had a Toyota FJ40, I always chained up all 4 tires when chains were needed for snow or spring break up mud and was told that only chaining one axle when in 4 wheel drive would risk damage to the drive train, specifically the transfer case. He said that was true and he did not know if chaining only the rear axle would not risk damage to the drive chain. He "thought" cable chains on all 4 wheels "might" be the way to go.

As a commercial truck driver with 1.4M miles of experience in the Colorado Rocky Mountains on I-70, chains will not help you on an unplowed road. They are only good on plowed roads. If that road isn't maintained and plowed, you will get stuck even with chains. Once that road hits 7" or more of powder unplowed, chains become useless.

You would be better off buying a snowmobile to traverse that road.

Also chains for the rear tires and use auto socks for the front tires.

    Deductive reasoning.

    British Columbia
    3500' elevation
    Heavy snowfall
    Road not maintained in winter
No one coming to help him if he gets stuck

A road like that will easily have a 4' - 8' snow depth on it during winter.

I have a snowmobile. My cabin is in the mountains. Surprise early snows happen in the mountains, which I am sure you know. The episode that triggered this research occurred last November. I drove into my cabin on dry, bare Forest Service Road. No snow predicted for the next two weeks. Three days later I went to bed with a bit of light rain. In the morning there was 18" of snow and still snowing.I drained the water system, packed up, locked up and barely got out. The snow did not leave until March. there is no cell service at my cabin and no one was coming to get my truck out once the snow hits. I have driven into my place as late as mid December in past.

A Tacoma (or pretty much any 4x4) can easily drive through 18” of newly fallen powder even with the stock Goodyear wrangler all-terrains. Other snow conditions might provide a much greater challenge. Chains and studs only help on ice or highly packed snow. Steel provides no extra traction on soft snow.

    Snow plow?
