I am not a fan of the Auto Start-Stop feature and normally disengage it immediately after starting the engine, but once I realized that I usually do not push the brake hard enough to activate it, I left it on and have noticed the following over the last week.

Normal Operation when stopped, the A symbol appears on my cluster gauge and states "Press Brake More to Activate"

I have gotten these abnormal messages:
    • The A symbol appears when stopped with message "Battery Charging"
    • The A symbol appears when stopped with message "Climate Control" This one happens when in defrost mode
    • The A symbol appears when stopped with message "Auto Stop-Start Not Available"
Each time a message appears other than "Press Brake More to Activate" I have pressed the brake fully and confirmed the feature is not functioning.

Edit: After reviewing the owner's manual, I discovered that all of these messages were normal for given conditions. Title of the thread should have been "Auto Start-Stop Normalities". Thanks to @JB_TN for pointing this out.

There is a set of conditions that must take place for the start stop to work and a bunch of conditions to keep it from working. Everything you mentioned is normal operation for it. See your manual for more information.

Get Toyota TIS and see if you can code it out to default off when you cycle the ignition.

This is the first thing I coded on my BMW. Its been 6 years and I never used the Auto Start Stop feature on my BMW M2. Its always off and remembers the last memory.

I must have missed something, thought is was an option. The manual states you can shut it off at the switch (on the center console). My OR doesn't have it.

auto SS should have a button to disable it, looks like a circle with an "A" in it.

also if you dont press the brake pedal to hard, most toyota's wont engage auto SS.

also to add, TIS wont let you modify auto SS to retain last power setting.

What 24 Tacoma model is this on? I have a Sport, and it has no auto start stop.
