I bought my trd pro a few years ago new for $41k. Toyota is following the playbook of Ford and Chevy. They are selling less vehicles but there profits are higher than ever.

Slice it anyway you want, $38k for a base level Tacoma is not any kind of bargain. Especially if you're going to be over $40k out the door.

If you told folks 2 years ago an SR 4x4 was going to be $40k out the door they wouldn't believe you.

I think he meant it in the context of $38k for a truck which doesn't even have the HP and suspension of the other models means isn't a bargain.

The MSRP on my 2022 base SR was $28,500, the MSRP on the new base SR is now $35,195. There are no "cheap" 4th gens.

Do you even get $6,695 worth more in the 4th gen?

I paid $32,869.70 out the door for my base double cab 2 wheel drive, MSRP was $28,500. I believe at the time it was another $3,000 for 4x4. So, you'd probably be around $36k out the door for a 3rd gen SR 4x4 based on what I paid for my SR 2wd. I paid MSRP so that was the going MSRP for a 3rd gen.

EDIT: I do see different numbers on the table above vs what I get on Toyota's build site. But they're close to my math.

Everyone saying these vehicles should not cost what they do, are you living under a rock? Everything that goes into making the vehicles has shot up astronomically in price over the last 3-4 years. Material, shipping cost for material, labor force wages, and so on. But somehow you think these trucks (that do also have technological and safety improvements, many that are mandatory) should cost what a “stripped down” truck cost ten years ago. You’re nuts.

I'm not aware of all the changes. The biggest thing would be the HP increase from the 2.7 to the new turbo.

I was using the cheapest base price for the previous SR 4 door against what the cheapest you can build now.

I added the difference between the 4x2 and 4x4 to arrive at the 4x4 price. MSRP was under $35k for a 4x4, the chart says $34,015. At the time I was seeing them less than that because I debated getting a 4x4.

    So, I don't think a $38k base SR 4x4 is a bargain.

I agree you can probably get a better price due to the current shopping environment, with negotiations and mark-downs. But per MSRP I don't find any of the 4th gens to be a bargain.

This is 71k for anyone high enough to spend 70k on a Tacoma.

My wife found an OT for 600 ADM.

There was a really long thread about the hood flexing on the highway, which has been every single Toyota that I’ve owned.

I saw a lot of 460 owners are salty that it’s actually better looking than the outgoing model.

I’m curious why the bigger fatter LX gets better gas mileage on both are using the same engine.

Yet...Give the dealers time; they'll be tacking on ADMs to push a Pro north of 70K at some point. The phrases "A fool and his money are soon parted." & "There's a sucker born every minute." come to mind when I think of Tacoma owners paying exorbitant ADMs.
