I wanted to mount my rifle somewhere it would be pretty hidden but easily accessible and completely reversible. I haven’t seen it done before on a Tacoma this way (maybe it has been) and it cost me $25 and is extremely durable so I’m pretty proud of myself. The hardest part was sliding my hand behind the headliner to hold the washer and nut in place behind the factory mount while trying to simultaneously support the clamp, ratchet it, and make it thread into the nut blind. After some trial and error I decided to tape the nut to the washer so I could hold both at once with my two fingers while I slid it behind the headliner and then get it started on the threads and use a ratchet to get it the rest of the way. Worked really well and in the future I can undo it, pop the plastic hooks back in and voila back to factory. IMG_5768.jpg

finished results! Very hard to see from outside the truck and I can pull on it as hard as I want it doesn’t come undone or fall down.

edit: you don’t have to cut the headliner at all like I did. I did that while I was experimenting with ways to get the washer and nut in behind that mount. If you tape them together as shown, then slide your hand between the headliner and the roof starting at the rear window, you can position the washer and nut while the other hand puts the clamp with bolt already threaded through it into place. No cutting required.

Nice! We need more rifle racks in trucks.

Also - will that hold an AK with 75 round drum? Asking for a friend…

I remember when 2 or even 3-gun racks in the back window of a truck were a dime a dozen. Today, such a display would likely get you arrested as a "domestic terrorist".

It looks good. It’s not completely reversible in that you cut the liner. Looks like a perfect neat solution for a fishing rod.

For proper placement of an AK, particularly one with a drum crammed in it, just throw it on the floorboard..

Don’t know where you live, but I see gun racks in trucks all the time. During the week they may have levels in them. A lot harder to see them in extended-quad cabs

This is a better option than the ceiling mount, my kid keeps hitting her head on it and her hair got tangled up on it as well!

I did cut the liner but only on one side because the factory hole through the liner is smaller on the drivers side and way bigger on passenger side for some reason… BUT when you put the factory plastic hooks back in it fully covers it so you’d never know

That’s too obviously visible and I’m in Canada so they’re pretty anal about everything guns. You don’t HAVE to cut the headliner, I just did that when I was still trying to go from the front instead of sliding my hand in from behind the liner. You can do it without cutting anything as I only cut the drivers side and it’s hidden when you put factory hooks back in.

I quit following the west coast a long time ago. Forgetting that crazy ass kali gun flow chart for a minute, where are you guys with your mags these days?
I know it seemed like things might be going your way for a minute a while back.

If you had magazines from either -

The preban, or the small window where they allowed sales of just some few years ago, you could still use them

But I'm not too caught up on semi autos, I have a ton of bolt guns

Yeah while I probably wouldn't get arrested for having it in the back window, so many Canadians would call the cops on me I’d eventually get charged with something for being annoying and stirring up a kerfuffle.

the rifle here is so high up on the ceiling combined with window tint it’s almost impossible to see from outside the truck even on sunny days.

Bolt guns are a LOT of fun if you've got room to shoot.
Didn't realize that until I was in my 30's.

CA has tons of open public land to shoot ELR

I've never tried shooting past 3k yards but Clear Lake above gets you up to over 2.5k

Even if you just want to target practice at shorter distances, joining clubs like in Sac Valley you can shoot their 1,000 yard range

    Nice.

I've never shot past 1,000, but even with a poor man's .308 that was made on the right day of the week, some decent glass and ammo, there's a lot of fun to be had there.

Gotta roll your own for sure; I haven't bought ammo in many years now

It's cheaper, and your SD's will be much smaller yielding consistent FPS
