New to this forum. Thanks for the add.

I recently purchased a 2021 Tacoma that uses a keyfob. The vehicle has the basic remote start feature but I'm looking for suggestions on something more robust that I can use from much greater distances. My preference would be something I can install myself.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

@N2DesignsInc all the way. I have one of their units in my tacoma, my wifes corolla, and my father's tundra. they are awesome. I added the cellular module to mine and it has been awesome.

Have you tried pressing the lock button on the fob three (3) times and holding it on the 3rd? I have this feature on my 2023. My son bought a 2023 about 3 months after me, and the salesman tried to sell him a remote start. I was present for the sale and told the salesman that I thought it was standard. He said it's an add on and insisted the Tacoma did not come with it. I took the fob and pressed the lock button three times (holding on the 3rd), and viola, it started! This is just a thought, I have no idea if they even offered remote start in 2021, but worth a try. EDIT: Lol, sorry, didn't read the part about having the factory remote start.

definitely try first, if not N2 is your go to.
Be forewarned, their customer service is non existent though, they never called or emailed me back,,, I had to figure out the problem on my own.

N2 and remotestartx on Amazon use the exact same fortin module. I’ve had the remotestartx for 4 years and it still works perfect.

However I just ordered the Accessorides kit to replace my current one.

Accessorides has the only kit that doesn’t shut down when the doors open.

I had a Viper installed 4 years ago. Other than a broken remote, it’s served me well. Might be better choices out there. I bought what local sound accessory shop recommended. I’ve heard they come ready to go with self install instructions. I paid for the install. It does shut off when I open the door, have to restart the truck.

If you have factory remote start you can pay for the Toyota app and start your truck from anywhere. But in Toyotas infinite wisdom it will, for no good reason, die when you open the door. Still better than getting into a cold truck though.

Good to know this! I'll definitely check into this solution before I do anything else. Thanks for the info.

I've had aftermarket starter/alarms. I like Viper 2 way and get it installed by a professional installer. To me that is one thing that is like medicine. Leave it to the pros.

I did not continue Toyota Remote Subscription beyond the first year.

My FOB still allows me to remote start as instructed below.

Surprised no one picked up on this nugget. Just looked it up and it's looks like they have done it. Even has the phone app upgrade too. Very nice

Few people have posted videos of it working, I’ll post some info once I get it.
