2023 4 Runner SSR backlight harness

The triangle connector is your turn signal. The sidemarker is…wait for it, on the side. Only two conductors.

Yeah, that's good. Unfortunately, it's the opposite of my Tacoma sidemarker so I'll have to redo.

I'm just starting to follow along with this thread. I also have a 2022 4Runner Off Road Premium with Diode Dynamics backlit SS3s installed in the factory fog light location (technically it's my wife's 4Runner but I get to mod it). I've used your harnesses for the same fog lights on my Tacoma and they worked perfectly so naturally I'm looking for something similar for the 4Runner.

As noted in the previous posts, the 4Runner DLRs turn off with the headlights, so I'd want to wire the backlights to the parking lights. Is this Tacoma harness what I need or is this still a work in progress?

If it's any help, I saw your address at the bottom of my receipt email for the Tacoma harness and I'm only a short drive away from you so I could easilly swing my 4Runner by sometime if you want to take a look in person.

I think it will work just fine. But, yeah, if it doesn’t and you’re close you can swing by and we can take a closer look.

I finally had a chance to spend some time on this and I'm afraid the harness we talked about didn't work. The connectors are correct - I was able to insert it inline with the side marker light but the fog backlight did not light.

For reference, here's a photo of the harness labeled for how I used it. The side marker illuminated correctly, so that part of it was fine, but the SS3 backlight did not receive power.

 

So check polarity. Maybe they are all the same after all? I don’t own a 4Runner so I can do this part. Green is positive and white w black stripe is negative or ground. If we only need one harness for both Tacoma and 4Runner, that’s great. You can send it back and I’ll swap it over.

 

Looking at the photos it seems I may have misinterpreted polarity. Man, I really don’t enjoy guessing on these things. Anyway, easy to swap it over.

 

To clarify, do you mean I should go ahead and send them back to be swapped? The side marker lights work with the harness in place, so it appears to be only the wire to the fog backlight that isn't working.

 

Take a clean photo showing the harness wire color and the oem wire color on each side of the connection where they mate. Ideally both of the 2 wires on each side but if you can just get one that will confirm that polarity is reversed. If you do that and send back I'll swap it over and send out. Or I can just send out a pair done the other way if you want and include a label, but photographic proof of the root cause is ideal.

 

Got it. I may not get a chance to get under there again until this weekend but I'll try to get some clear photos then. The lights are a lot harder to get to on the 4Runner than the Tacoma but I'll see what I can do (I have no idea how @20234runnee got his photos).

To be 100% sure I'm getting the right thing before I go back in there, you want to see the wires/connector for the side marker light I'm plugging the harness into, right? (marked "factory wire here" in my previous photo).

 

Yes. Oem female sidemarker connected to harness male sidemarker connector. Wire colors there will tell me what’s going on.

My wife isn't taking the 4Runner today so I left the fender lining open so I can get you more photos today if you need them.

So, what I need to do is merge in the 4Runner harness to the one above since they are indeed the same polarity.

For yours, you could send it back to me and I'll swap it over, I don't have a ton of those connectors so best to not waste them.
