Hey yall, i’m in the market for a Toyota Tacoma however, I don’t know which one would fit my lifestyle more and I don’t want to overpay for a truck that I’m not going to use the way its meant to be used. I need a truck to get me to the campsite and I won’t be doing any hard-core off-road. Would you recommend an SR5?

Sr 5 4x4 is nothing fancy but it does have everything you would probably need if you’re just going camping on some rough roads. And you still get the four wheel drive if you need it.

I had a 4cyl 21 SR 4x4 access cab with the utility package. It got me everywhere with the stock tires. I drove it on forest roads, fire trails, and logging roads in national forests. I did tons of shallow (1ft or so) water crossings, too. It handled everything like a champ... except mud. Get some decent tires on even the cheapest Taco you can find and you got yourself a vehicle to get you to just about any campsite you want.

The SR5 in the new trucks is much better than it was in the 1gen Tacoma.
And those old 1st Gen could do what you are asking.

I think you'll be just fine with an SR5.

Do you need 4wd? Mud, snow, etc?

Do you need the ground clearance of a truck?

Or do you need just something to haul stuff?

Do you need a back seat?

Do you drive a lot of hwy miles?

    Does MPG matter to you?

Do you keep vehicles long term or chase every shiny new thing?

Do you DIY maintenance or rely on others?

Point is your 'lifestyle' is a secret to us. The more specific, the better folks can answer.
