Not having read all the posts because I'm lazy, I bet it's more due to the fact that the battery was likely disconnected while the repairs were made, and that reset all the ECU settings and emissions tests.

I'd give it a few more tanks before you start tearing into it chasing a ghost.

That’s what the Toyota service manager said. Thanks!

Clutched fans were around in the early 60s. My '64 GTO had one, along with drum brakes. So the fan is another item Toyota has been behind the curve on.

Modern vehicles have had temp controlled electric fans for decades.

Certainly they have their own issues, but physical drag isn't one of them. 'Maybe' working the alternator a bit harder if they run all the time.

meh, A '64 GTO is "modern". I was thinking of my '42 Studebaker p-up. I even had to buy fatter v-belts to turn the fan faster.
A non-clutched fan is huge physical drag a highway speed. (Note that the electrical fans are free-wheeling when not switched-on.)

...much chatter within here for review on that viscous fan clutch/fluid coupler as a potential for noticeable MPG losses compared to the norm
353k on the 5VZFE here with the R150F 5spMT that i am becoming exhausted in trying to diagnose the WHY??

looking for the culprit on the recent all-of-a-sudden MPG loss on my rig over the past several months... 50 to 60 miles less on a full tank compared to the historical norms going back years to decades

i put a new OEM viscous fan clutch in around 200k.. also bot some of the special Yota oil/fluid that goes in there at that time because that part alone cost some good coin and if all it needs is new oil you know?

    https://youtu.be/UwM4OqsLek4?si=_FH51BTfyMJaoYNh

prior comments within this topic mention a fan locking up over 40mph and putting a drag on the 5VZFE
would there be a noticeable noise on the freeway if this were to be the case?

i am definitely not sure this is my rig's current issue with the recent drop in MPG
but you just never know! nobody seems to know?? the 'professionals' do not know anything anymore on the old tacoma, it is terribly frustrating
unless you have experienced this and have first hand knowledge that THIS was the fix

has anybody with the 5VZFE had a noticeable MPG issue and found the viscous fluid coupler/fan clutch to be the #1 culprit
