Make Taillights turn on with DRl

Need some help/advising with this idea. I want my Taillights to be backlit like they usually would be when I turn on the dusk/headlights while on my DRL setting. Mainly because I am running alpharex taillights and headlights and just want to rear to be lit since the front always is. They’re plug and play so it shouldn’t change anything. Anyways I need some help on what I would need to splice into/wire up in the harness for this to happen. Thanks. The pics below are with DRLs on (taillights off) and dusk/headlights on (taillights on). 2014 double cab btw.

 

Problem one: Tail circuit is also tied to tag illumination.

I think you're making this too complicated. Just use your normal headlights if you want front/back illuminated at the same time.

 

If you insist, with an assembled Y pigtail to the rear light assemblies you'd isolate the parking circuit. You could tap into the towing circuit-battery charger side for IGN fused source. Then run a wire (-) to the DRL wire on the main body ECU. It would require a 5 pin relay also.

 

I just want the taillights on when drl. I do not what my projectors or plate lights on

2 sets, a pair per side.
On the relay, dual taps for pin 30 (one per side) One side can get a plug on the pin outlet for the outgoing parking circuit source.

 

While caribe makaira's solution is elegant and the correct way to do it you can also doing on the cheap with a pair of 3-5A diodes, one placed inline on the green wire of each tail light with the stripes facing toward the body side and then tap the other one to an ignition controlled power source, such as the towing circuit.

 

That be always ON after IGN. So no DRL switch control.

 

True. I didn't realize the was a switch for DRLs. I run an 05, so no DRL at all.

You could add the missing Y harness and relay.

 

Nope, I'm good with not running DRL. If I ever did decide to do it I'd just pull an ignition source to the white half of my switchback turn signals. Currently I run them with my marker lights.
