I am so confused. I’m trying to figure out why my rail running lights and license plate lights aren’t working. None of the fuses are blown and the bulbs are fine. As I was trying to diagnose a wiring issue I pulled this wire that seemed to be in the way because it wasn’t connect d to anything. Turns out, I followed it all the way to the engine bay and it’s connected to this device that I have no idea what its purpose is. It’s connected to the red wire from the positive battery terminal. Anyone have any idea what this is for and why the wires aren’t connected to anything? Would this be a cause for power problems for my rear running lights?image.jpg image.jpg

It isn't oem. Looks like some sort of solenoid or isolator. Where to the wires go? Do you have dual batteries?

I don’t have dual battery. I’m not the first owner so I’m wondering if they installed it. It leads to the very back and I believe at one point had something to do with trailer hookups but I’m not sure. I can’t believe I’ve never noticed it and just wanted to know what it was. If it’s not OEM then that’s all that matters. Thanks!

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Solenoid for something, likely a trailer harness

    minor tweaks
Nothing like troubleshooting an issue only to find some less than ideal wiring mods done way before you got the truck that may or may not be causing the problem.

Maybe just disconnect the wiring from the solenoid first to verify it isn't playing an active role with something else on the truck before removing completely.

Given your other thread, try attaching 12V to the trigger terminal and see if your lights start working...assuming you haven't ripped everything out already
