No, it's not a 22LR insert put in a 5.56 barrel. It's a dedicated 22LR barrel and bolt set up. Only way to shoot 5.56 in it is to swap the barrel and bolt. And add a gas tube.

You can put this to get her what th a standard AR upper and use a regular lower? This is more appealing to me than other options

Yep. All you need is the barrel, bolt and mags. I have a dozen or so CMMG mags, but I like Blackdog a lot better.

Link to barrels, and bolt kits. The barrels are 1:16 twist, so their way more accurate than a drop in 22 conversion kit in a AR barrel.

This is what my CMMG looked like before I retroed it. I had it stamped as a SBR not long after buying it.

    not to deflect this topic...

A newly proposed California bill SB1160 would require gun owners to register their firearms annually with the California Department of Justice, paying an annual fee for each gun.

On the topic of 22LR in an AR platform. Absolutely LOVE my CMMG 22LR bolt conversion for my standard 556 setup. Super fun plinking and runs great with standard Aguila Bulk HV 22lr. Yeah its a little dirty but put a few 223/556 down it after 22LR fun to blow the junk out and all is good.

Thats a stock photo from Sparrow Dynamics website. Not my personal.

When you have the 22LR bolt conversion installed, and you want to shoot .223 as you say to "blow the junk out", do you have to remove the conversion first? (Dumb question I'm sure but I'm
new to this concept). I own both .223/.556 and .22LR guns.

I've heard people remove the conversion barrel insert, and then put a few rounds of 5.56 thru it to blow any left over 22 junk out of the gas tube.

I used a CMMG 22 conversion on a 556 barrel when I first got it. It shot like garbage, paper plate size groups at 25 yards. The twist rate of a 556 barrel (1:7/1:8) is 2X that of a 22LR specific barrel (1:16). I bought a dedicated CMMG 22 barrel for it, a million times better.

Gas block on 22lr doesn't get hot because there's no "gas".

Well yes he would deff be a priority. I helped one neighbor with an AR at Christmas he hasn’t shot it yet. Helped the neighbor on the other side with a PSA 2 Christmas’s ago he still hasn’t shot it either so you’re not alone. Good luck with your Father I wish him the best possible outcome

I might within the next couple weeks. My wife is in agreement that I need to. But thank you for the warm wishes. They are indeed, greatly appreciated.
