    I recently bought this 2011 Tacoma (250,000 km). The engine is running perfectly fine, however; it throws a code p0016. Worst case this could be the timing chain. I checked the little chain tensioner window and this is what it looks like. Is this chain toast??

    Looks pretty far out to me too, doesn't look like it was all that well maintained either by the sludge and varnish in there.

    @Bishop84 your thoughts?

    Yea its a chain for sure, the secondary tensioners are likely collapsed so 3 chains, 3 tensioners, and idler sprocket are due for replacing.

    Before you tackle it, get under the truck and check to make sure the headgasket and water pump are not leaking, they are a "while you're at it" if you're doing chains.

    During the chain service you'll want to clean out the VVTI lines and filters. This thread has images. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1gr-fe-bank-1-vvti-issues-p0011-p0012-p0016.770671/
