Just replaced exhaust from the spring bolts (including the gasket) down but having an issue at the connection. Because the welded nuts were corroded on the spring bolts I ground them down and used new nuts to lock in. I’ve tried several levels of tightening the new bolts but the rattle only gets worse.

Is my best/only option to cut the ends off and install a small flex pipe with clamps?

The nuts shredded where the red arrow is pointing so I ground them down to get a flatter surface for a new nut.
The only thing that seems odd is the new donut that came with the new exhaust is pretty small (fits) and doesn't give a lot of buffer between the two pipes.
