I know this is armor - technically flaps protect you so I figured here was as good as any....

The Deal: I have stock mudflaps. I didn't think I would like them - and I don't. But I do like how they protect the paint off road. I'd like to make my own if there is a step-by-step so I don't have to reinvent the mudflap. Or if someone makes them, maybe I support a TW member.

And no - I don't like any of the After Market ones I've seen either. Not spending $200 on mudflaps that bring no joy.

Ideally what I want is to make a rubber mudflap. Something flexible but thick to dissipate the energy of a rock. And I want to make them about HALF the size of a stock flap. Is a Bikini-Mudflap a thing? Something smaller than a regular mudflap? If it had the old school "4x4" on it that would be cool too.

I made these using a mudflap I found on the side of the highway.

And I bought a Mudflap to make a second set for my high clearance bumper.

Half the length of the OEM mudflap will be a cosmetic decoration, unable to catch anything flung up by the tire tread at the contact patch.

I made longer ones for my 4Runner. https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/28603387 Mounting method could be done the same way on the Tacoma.

If smaller is your goal just remove them anything smaller than stock is pointless. Also you need to be mindful of material used. Use somthing to soft they just lift in the wind. The balance of rigidity and flexibility is a fickle one with mud flaps. Just spend the pesos on a quality set and it will do the job as it should. I have had rokblokz xl's on for 3 years and it was worth the expense even though I can't run my fronts anymore due to some clearencing
