my passenger side parking brake is loose where it connects to the backing plate. Do I have to remove the drum to adjust it or can I do it through the center console or do I need to do both? Or does it need to be replaced? Thanks for any advice.

That's broken, I belive you have to replace the cable to fix that.

Dang. Guess I’ll have to replace it. Did the rock auto cable fit? I’ve heard after market doesn’t always fit. Is it possible that the rear wheels would be making a clinking sounds on acceleration due to this cable being broken? I swear it’s coming from the rear passenger side.

I have a DCLB, the only ones I could find in the correct length was Raybestos. Lots of short bed/access cab cables though. They looked and fit just as good as oem

As far as the noise is concerned, sure I guess it could be making a rattling sound. Check all your bolts back there. Obviously if you find something broken it should be fixed first and then see if the noise goes away. If it was my truck I'd want the parking brake working correctly

Surprisingly the parking brake is working fine despite the one side being broken

The parking brake cable spring inside the drum will still function as long as that mounting bracket is intact.
I just used JB Weld on my passenger side cable with the exact same break so have no long-term results yet but that will keep the water out of it.
There are two 6 x 1.0 mm bolts that are accessed inside the brake backing plate to remove the cable. I removed the bolts to replace the rear axle assembly and then had to use a large screw driver or pry bar to get that mounting bracket (part of cable) to come off the backing plate (its alum). You also have to take the brake shoes off to remove the cable where it attaches to the shoe lever.
If you try the JB Weld fix its a 10 min job or full cable replacement will be many hours and there are posts on doing it.
