I know this happened to others because I found a thread but no resolution was posted.

I was swapping out the head unit with a Stinger. While the OEM unit was removed and disconnected, I disconnected the battery to clean corrosion.

Installed the Stinger and it wouldn’t turn on. Reinstalled the OEM head and it wouldn’t turn on. To troubleshoot I did the following

    1. I checked the two 20a fuses in the engine compartment that are related to the radio. They are intact.

    2. With the OEM head unit installed I disconnected the batter again and then reconnected. Still dead.

    3. Double and triple checked my connections. Everything is lined up.

At this point I’m wondering if I either caused some reset on the truck, or somehow damaged the connections. The latter doesn’t seem likely because everything came apart and went back together without any force.

I’m running out of ideas here and the last thing I want to do is take it to the dealer for service.

Does the reverse camera turn on? Usually it works even when the radio software is buggered up.

These radios have numerous connectors, are you super sure that one didnt fall behind the dash and you missed it?

When you put the connections back in did you hear a click? Like it snapped back in place.

Look under the drivers side near left knee for another fuse box.

If it's not a fuse, relay or loose connection you fried the radio when you left the negative terminal connected and disconnected the positive cable. Always disconnect the negative terminal first before doing any electrical work.

UPDATE: It resolved itself. I checked all the related fuses and even though they were intact, my OCD made me replace them. I completely disconnected the battery again with the unit installed and reconnected the battery. Finally, I drove the truck around for a while with the dead unit. Then this morning when I started the truck, voila! The head unit booted up.

I spazzed out and did so many things that I'm really not sure what did it although I suspect that driving around for a while may have reset everything??? Total mystery.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm scared to mess with the truck's electrical again.
