Gave away my present utility trailer. Wasn't exactly what I wanted. I've built and sold around 200 utility trailers, so you would think I could get it right.

Chicken scratched a rough material list.

This is not complete, but will allow it to become a rolling chassis.

This what $550 in iron looks like.

At least they threw in the cutting to size.

And here I thought I was addicted to trailers. But nowhere near 200 built.

I started doing these things around 2001. I just wanted a utility trailer for myself. I built one, used it for a week and promptly sold it. Kept getting calls asking if I could build another. So I did...and another...and another. Took me 10 years to build and keep one for myself. Had it for five years then sold it. Took another 5 years before I built my own again. Had that one for a year and sold it.

I just gave away my present trailer, so now I gots to build another.

In between, I'd just build one to have on hand. They were never on hand very long.

I do roughly the same design, so I can build them in my sleep.

You do understand the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again... expecting different results... right?

Yep, they old as shit! There has been very little change in the trailer axle industry in the last 50 years...except thinner axle tube is used.

These are 1/3 heavier than what you can buy today.

Bearings and seals are still the same and can be purchased at any NAPA.

I plan on taking all summer to build this.

Rough layout of the frame. Now to square it up by measuring diagonally.

Cut the ubolts off the donor axles.
I went back and forth on saving and using them. $40 bucks for new ones and I know they quality.

With doing that I was able to inspect the springs. Springs look great. The only thing I need to decide is if I want to remove a leaf.

This trailer is only going to haul 2600 lbs max. Half the time, I will be hauling it empty. Removing a leaf will make it less rough when hauling empty...of course will be half the time.

Frame is squared and most of the x members have been tacked in place.

It will sit like this for a while. I need to fab up a bumper for the Tundra that is in the background.

    Please stay tuned...
