Fingers crossed they accept Screenshot_20240522_194116_Chrome.jpg aScreenshot_20240522_193838_Chrome.jpg
55k miles, new wheels and tires. They want about 22k but offer financing too so I offered 5k down for $200 payments with my 750 credit as my first offer. Gonna see what they respond with before maybe going through my bank

Some banks won't offer loans on vehicles older than 10 years. Shop around.

Jjbest offers classic car financing . There's a couple other classic car specific ones as well. I love classic cars. This is mine 20210130_173717.jpg

True, but you can also just get a personal loan. APR rates are so high right now, probably not much of a difference

If you're referring to rust there isn't any. Car fax has decent maintenance records too

Looks great. Is that one of those 6.0L 125hp gm 80’s motors?

Nah it's either the 5.7 or 5.0 tbi motor think stock they were somewhere between 185-210hp. The 6.6 liter smokey and the bandit firebirds are what you're thinking of

Can you put more down? Paying on toys is not a good idea if you can avoid it.

    It's a K.I.T.T. car

Seriously tough if you like it, go for it.
But I'd rather have a pre-1980 car. I like the looks better, and they actually had a decent engine.

I'm willing to bet he's around my age . I'm 40 and the 80s and 90s are in mostly because these things are our nostalgic childhood cars. Early stuff is cool but we just don't have the connection to it. My c10 is a result of that , it was my dad's, I rode in a ton of them as a kid , I almost bought one about 4 different times in life from high school on , and I remember when they were everywhere from brand new , to high school beaters , to early classic to what they are now. Op is probably the same.

I will say I have to second the bit about financing toys. My c10 is FULLY restored. Ls swapped , professional build , and it still has its quirks. Right now I need to spend 1k on swapping to a retrofit ls swap fuel tank woth an in tank fuel pump to alleviate a vapor lock issue due to an external fuel pump. Even if all original its going to need money to keep her enjoyable.

I've had alot of toys over the years, only ever financed one of them which was a brand new kawi ninja 600 back in 2007. I regretted financing that thing right up to the moment I sold it. I enjoyed it but back then it was more hassle than it was worth due to being financed. My .02 cents. That being said OP knows his situation best and financing might work for him.

    I'm also 40. I restored a 79' TransAm when I was in high school.
And to make matters worse, it was my daily driver too.
1.5 years of my life spent in high school, was working on that car.

Burn out got me. I got it finished, with an empty bank account.
Sold it, and with the credit of my mom, I put that money down on a 1999 Tacoma.
That truck was still my favorite one to this day.

The only advice I have is, if you buy it. you have two options.

    1. Drive it. and don't try worry about preserving the "collector car" value.
    2. Never drive it and hope it reaches "collector car" value. This also means, you need a place to store it.

I would have loved to still be able to own my 99' Lightening. But life happens, and I had no where to store it.
So, I went all in and sold it and my GSXR. Then bought a 2005 Tacoma new paid in full.

Hind sight is 20/20. But I had a weird feeling those trucks would make a market come back.
They were under rated for the time.

That's not a good way to bid on a car. Down payment & monthly payment? You serious? That's like 7 yrs on a used car with unknown interest rate.

Yep. Establish the selling price first after negotiation. Then start working on purchasing. Vehicles are the worst investment...ever. Paying high interest rates for long periods is a wealth sucking cycle to stay out of.

I agree. I don't look at any vehicle as an investment.
I look at them as a tool. If it can't help me make money, or save me money, it's GONE.
A vehicle not used, is an expense.
