Where does the negative battery cable connect to a stock 2000 3.4L MT?

I am in the process of relocating my battery from the passenger compartment into its original location in the front of the truck. The PO did a half-ass job of relocating the battery (into the passenger compartment!!!) as to fit a belt driven air compressor under the hood. I have removed the compressor and all of its components from the truck.

The bracket holding the compressor in had completely separated welds in two areas. I knew of one before removal.

The positive power cable was just run through a hole in the firewall, no grommet or anything. The casing of the wire just sitting on the metal edge of the hole. Both ends of the positive battery cable had connectors electrical taped on. All of the above, Holey fire hazard Batman!!!

    It was bad.

Anyway, that's where I am. I bought a new negative battery cable and would like to install it in the factory location. There is a spot on the frame that would work perfect but I'm not sure if it's the original ground.

    Pictures would be incredibly helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't have a photo at the moment, but it mounts to the inside of the inner fender right by the battery tray location. The stock length is somewhere around 12" or less.

Only to the inner fender? The "replacement" I got has a longer 2 gage cable and a stubby 8 gage connection. I assumed the 8ga was to the inner fender and the 2ga was to the block or the frame.

Should be grounded from the battery to engine block, and battery to fender. There is also a ground from the back of the engine to the firewall, but I don't think you are touching that.

Perhaps the ground on my frame was added by the PO as a solution for the lack of a ground to the engine block after relocation of the battery. With the battery in the passenger compartment they had ground the battery to the frame.

As there are a ton of grounds terminating to the engine block, I'd make sure you have a direct connection from the battery negative to the engine block.

I am assuming this is the original engine block ground for the negative battery cable? Can anyone confirm this?

This is grounded to the frame on my truck.

That's definitely not stock. Toyota also didn't use socket cap screws.

Agreed. I know that frame connection is new. I was asking if the neg batt wire terminated at the engine block connection. Not the frame connection.

I ended up cleaning up the frame connection and terminating the negative cable there. Seeing as how that is directly tied to the engine block, I'm just upping my ground game.:)
