3.4L Taco weird idle/engine sounds.

Does anyone else hear a weird engine clicking sound, or is it just me. Anyone know what it could be? Didn't notice it before but just noticed it on my way home from work just now. No check engine light and drives excellent.

It's a 2000 Tacoma 3.4L TRD OR 4x4 | got a month ago with 223k miles. Just got new plugs, coils, 02 sensors, fuel filter, trans and engine oil + both filters, transfer case and front and rear differential flushed, new radiator and coolant flush. Timing belt and water pump was done at 175k miles.

Wheel bearing + diff+ axle seals front and rear all replaced. New OEM LBJ and upgraded to Tundra brakes with OEM calipers, rotors and pads. Really want to take care of the engine/drivetrain so trying to make sure nothing is wrong.

Could I potentially have serpentine belt issues with tension, fan clutch issue or need a fuel injector cleaner/fuel additive? I have new o2 sensors so also want to add something that wouldn’t ruin them.

I also cold start perfectly instantly but have a rough warm start after a longer than normal crank. Once started the idle has been good. Was hoping new plugs, coils and fuel filter would fix that.

BG 44K in the tank. Do I need an oil change right after though? I already changed my oil 500 miles ago

the ticking sound is somewhat mild and wasn’t there for a while today. Rough warm start still exists…

 

You are likely hearing the VSV clicking. It is located over by the battery, closer to the windshield. It’s a solenoid that goes on and off. Put your hand on it to feel the blocking and see if it lines up with the noise. Probably a bit of belt noise as well. It can be tough to clearly identify with all of the moving parts. I bought my second first gen Tacoma recently and also thought the clicking was a bit louder than my first but I think it’s just the vsv doing its thing.
