A/C magnetic clutch will not engage

Hello,
I'm a new member working on my son's 2006 Tacoma. We replaced the engine without disconnecting the a/c compressor. The engine is running fine but the a/c doesn't work. The magnetic clutch does not engage when the a/c is turned on, but will engage when I test the connectors with a 12 volt battery. I checked the relay and it is working but I am not getting power down to the power wire at the connecter.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I could check.
